Monster of a Quest

Chapter 16 Leo

It was very nice of Cody not to tell the others that she was having a panic attack. I could see Dabria appreciated it too, but it was the least he could do for her after being so rude to her the whole trip. It looks like this might make their bond grow. Which is good because they had a strong relationship before, but it was mostly negative. "I think we should take shifts doing watch tonight. I was thinking two people at a time, if that is okay with you guys," says Dabria. Everyone looks at each other and nods and agrees. "Okay then I will take the first watch, who will join me" says Charlotte. Dabria seemed like she was going to volunteer, but she needed some sleep, so I decided to volunteer instead. "I will," I say, standing up, and either way, I would like to learn more about Charlotte. She seems to be hiding something. They all looked at me, but instead of looking back at them, I looked at Dabria and she smiled and nodded her head. "Okay, Charlotte and Leo, you take the first shift, and if anything bad happens or weird, wake us up right away," Dabria said, looking at us, waiting for our response. "Okay," I say, looking at Charlotte, then Dabria. "Promise" Dabria asks? "Promise," we said, at the same time smiling. "Okay then if everything goes to plan like I hope, Charlotte wake me up at midnight, and Leo wake one of the boys up and we will take the next second shift" says Dabria, we both nodded and then the others got up and went into their tents to sleep.

I look at Charlotte as she gets up, and immediately she looks at me like I did something wrong. "What do you want to know" she says, so she knew, but how. "I know how you work Leo. I might not be as observant as you but the way you said you would take the shift and not just raise your hand or make any gesture means you really wanted to do it, and I know you do not just want to be out here with me" she says, grabbing her sword. She sighs then says "Plus you also have this look in your eye when you want your questions answered or you're highly interested in something, it is how you looked in class all the time when we were learning something new about the Shadow monsters". She started to walk away. I ran and got my spear and then ran to catch up with her. I did not even know I had a look in my eyes. "It is true I have a question for you" I say smiling at her waiting for her object but there was no objection "I want to know why you are so uneasy around Sam, he has not done anything to you that I know of and yet you still hate him, why is that" I ask. She stares at me for a bit then smiles. "For someone who doesn't like to talk, when you have a question you can just not stop yourself, make me wonder why you don't actually talk any other time" she says then stops and looks back at the camp. "Charlotte you are avoiding my question" I say stopped as well, I just look at her. "This should be good, we have a perfect space in between us" she say again avoiding my question. "Charlotte" I say a little louder. "What Leo, what do you want from me? I am not uneasy around him and I don't hate him. You must have been seeing things" she says louder than me, then she looks around us making sure no one heard her. "Ohh really than why do your eyes always dart around when he is near you. It looks like you have a mission to look at everything but him" I say calmly, while I twirl my spear through my fingers.

It was quiet after that for a good twenty minutes, I kept waiting while I continued twirling my spear through my fingers, I almost dropped it multiple times but I was starting to get the hang of it. "Okay but do not tell anyone, and if you do I will find a way to hurt you so bad you will wish you did not get an answer, got it" she says staring at me intensely, I nodded. "I just don't trust him and frankly I don't like him either. He says he is Dabria's best friend but he is not the nicest to her '' she says. "Oh, so this is about Dabria" I say smiling, she smiles a little, like she was thinking of Dabria. "Partly" she says, I smile even more, she sees me and straightens her face. "Look, she deserves to be cared for. She is an amazing person who cares about all of us in different ways. I mean she even cares about Cody, and he is well Cody. She deserves more than she has, if I could I would make her life a paradise but I can't" she says then looks back at the camp and then scans the rest of the area. "You are a nicer person than people think, and I know Dabria thinks the same thing" I say, she looks at me smiling for a second then hardens again. "Don't ever say that again" she says, and I could tell she was charm speaking me, I nod. After that we just stayed quiet and watched the area. While I processed everything she told me, trying to see if their is any thing hidden in what she said.

 I look up at the moon. "It's midnight" I say, then look down and start walking back to the tents. "How do you know that" she asks, I stop then look back at her. "By the moon, and the position it is in" I say, she looks at me weirdly for a second then nods. I start walking again and I hear her follow not long after to go wake Dabria up. I wonder who I should wake up. I mean maybe Sam, he is Dabria's best friend, but if I wake Cody up it could be a good bonding experience or they might start hating each other again. I think about it for a second while I just stand outside in front of the tent. The risk is worth it because if they don't get along this quest will go up in smoke. Plus if they do start bonding more it will be good for them and the rest of the team of course. Before I knew it I was waking Cody up.
