I know it's hard to trust someone on the first date...but the girl in my basement needs someone to talk to.

Fourteen sunsets.

The sun had set fourteen times since Taehyung had last spoken to Jungkook. His body ached. At first, it had settled over his heart. Then, like a virus, the pain spread over his entire being. It was poetic how their relationship had ended, much like it started.

Bitterness. Confusion. Mistrust.

"Taehyung, you have to get out of bed."

Bright light flooded Taehyung's old bedroom at his parent's house. His eyes stung from the rays as the pillow he held over his face was ripped away.

"I'm not in the mood, Jimin, and I'm not eating any more goldfish crackers," he muttered, reaching for the pillow with squinted vision.

"Jimin left."

Taehyung blinked until Yoongi came into focus.

Yoongi tossed the pillow back at Taehyung's head. "We were all supposed to go out tonight, remember? He didn't want to leave you alone."

"Great," Taehyung scoffed, his mouth dry and scratchy, "I think I'd have preferred to be left alone."

"What? Then with me?" Yoongi smiled, "I can't imagine why."

Taehyung pulled himself into a seated position. "You didn't want to go out?" he questioned, eyeing Yoongi's stylish attire.

"I was going to," Yoongi began, dropping onto the window seat, "but Hobi wanted to join," he smiled sadly, "and I didn't want to ruin his night."

"So, you decided to ruin mine instead," Taehyung chuckled, not a hint of malice in his tone.

Yoongi laughed and dropped his head, his hands gripping the edge of the wooden bench. Taehyung studied Yoongi's posture and noted that it was similar to his own. A sudden realization dawned over him.

"No," Taehyung gasped, Yoongi's head snapping up in surprise. "You love him."

"What?" Yoongi began to stammer in surprise, "I do not!"

"Yes, you do!" Taehyung narrowed his gaze, "You didn't even ask who I was referring to."

Yoongi opened his mouth but closed it in defeat.

Silence fell over the bedroom. The only sound was the soft tick of Taehyung's old alarm clock. Taehyung swallowed hard. The past few days had been difficult to process.

"I don't know if I love him," Yoongi finally whispered, his expression downcast. "But what's it worth staying with him when he's not my soulmate? Hobi can't make me the happiest. I can't make him the happiest. It's better for both of us if we keep our distance."
