There's An Endless Road to Rediscover

|Author's Note: Took inspiration from an episode of BBC's Robin Hood. This chapter's name came from "Hey Brother" by Avicii. Again no exact timeline here, just an adventure. Hope you enjoy :)|

Vax'ildan grimaced as he stepped in the deep hole of mud, he groaned as he picked up the pace following close behind his sister, as the group trekked through the dense forestry.

"Sister, dear, do think it's possible for us to take a break?"

Vex eyed her brother, before nodded, she turned to the group

"It's gonna be dark soon, we should set up camp."

The group agreed and began to set up camp, they sat our the campfire, talking and laughing about their stories and adventures, suddenly Scanlan stood up.

"Everything okay, Scanlan?"

Keyleth asked eyeing the bard, who merely smiled before excusing himself making a crude remark about going to bathroom making the air ashari frown, minutes passed when they heard the bard scream

"WHAT THE SHIT!?"

The group stood to their feet, weapons drawn as Scanlan came back to the group, a bundle of blankets in his arm, on later inspection, they realized it was a sleeping baby, the slowly set their weapons down, as they crowded the gnome, glancing at the baby, Keyleth let a small squeal, as she scooped the baby from Scanlan's arm, she smiled as the baby slept, the others smiled fondly at the babe.

"What happen to it's parents? Did you see anything else with the baby?"

Vex questioned Scanlan, who shook his head and gave a shrug.

"Should we go investigate where the baby was left, maybe there could be some evidence of what happen?"

Percy suggested, the group agreed and spilt in two; Vax, Keyleth, and Grog stayed behind, as Vex, Percy, Pike, and Scanlan went to the area where Scanlan found the baby, the baby was left underneath a tree, from what Scanlan saw there was no note or any sigh of a reason why the baby was left here, they kept searching until Percy called out the group, they reached him where he raised his lantern, there on the ground laid a woman with arrows pucturing her back, Percy looked away, thinking of his sister, Cassandra. Vex set a hand on his shoulder for comfort as Pike checked the pulse, she frowned and shook her head, they made their back to the group where they heard the baby crying.

"I don't what happen! For a moment they were asleep and then they started crying."

Scanlan was the first to walk over and raised his arms up and gestured Keyleth to hand him the baby, the group was shocked when he tipped the baby upside down, Percy rushed over and grabbed the child, Vax glared at Scanlan and he gave him a smack

"WHAT?! That's how you quiet them."

Vax shook his head, as group looked at Percy with wide eyes, as the baby's cries subsided, Percy glanced and looked at the group, his eyebrow quirked upwards.

"What?"

"Wow, Percy, you're really good with kids."

Keyleth grinned as Percy merely shrugged, Vax walked over and eyed the baby, 'Poor kid', he thought to himself as they group settled back down, Percy leaned against a stone as he held the baby, Vax and Keyleth laid beside each other near the fire, Vex laid near Grog and Pike and Scalan, they glanced up at the starry night, as sleep came over them, Vax was stirred awake to the sound of shuffling as he glanced up to see Percy, he eyed the gunslinger with squinted eyes, he made his way to Percy who was hunched over. As he made his way he saw that Percy makeshift a diaper for the baby,

"Hey.."

Percy jumped a bit, as he glanced at Vax, his body moment became calm as he saw that it was not a threat, he gave a weak smile

"Hello Vax.."

"How is everything?"

"Fine, she's calm now, just needed a change."

"May I?"

Percy nodded and handed her to Vax, he cradled her head, as Percy let out a small yawn, Vax eyed him

"Have you not slept?"

"Hm? No, was worried I might have dropped her in my sleep."

"Go to sleep, Freddie. I got this."

Percy eyed him for a second, before nodded, they walked back to the fire, as Percy laid on the ground as Vax sat near the fire, keeping himself and the baby warm.

"Where did you get the fabric for the diaper?"

Vax asked, Percy gave him a mischievous grin.

"Scanlan's clothes, I'm sure he won't mind, after he tried torment the poor girl, by holding her upside down."

Vax snickered as Percy smiled, glancing up at the sky, letting sleep take him, Vax smiled looking at the group, at his family.
