WHAT? WE ARE MOVING? Why? Kristie shouted.
Well the farm has not being as much money like in the past and we have fallen behind on taxes and are in dept. Her mother explained gently. So we had to sell the farm to pay off the dept. Me and your father have already found a nice house for us to live in and we have already found jobs that want us to start a week from tomorrow.
Do we know who bought the farm? asked Kristie.
Yes. her father answered.
Who?
Rob.
Rob? The guy who is almost always drunk? Who spends all his money on beer, meth and cocaine? The guy who got fired from his job because he showed up drunk too many times?
Yes. He was the only one who would pay full price for this ranch.
What horses are we taking? Kristie asked.
None of them. Her father answered
What? Not even Stardust? Tears started to form in Kristie's eyes.
Honey we will not have enough money to board her at a stables. That is way for the past few days you might have noticed some horses not here anymore. Thier new owners came to pick them up. We tried to sell as many as possible. So for the next few days more people will be showing up to pick them up.
Did you sell Stardust yet?
No we wanted to tell you first and so that you could choose her new owner. Tears started streaming down Kristie's face. We are sorry honey that this had to happen.
Kristie ran out the door and ran all the way to the barn. Once in the barn she slowed down to a walk so that she did not spook any of the horses. She then went to Stardust's stall and opened up the door. Once inside the stall she wraped her arms around Stardust's neck and cried until all the tears had dried up. Kristie then took off the cooler that was attached on to Stardust's body, folded it up, took it outside the stall and draped it on the rail attached to the stall.
She then went into the tack room, grabbed a couple carrots and her grooming kit. She then went back to the stall, set down her grooming kit inside the stall and broke off a chunk of carrot to give to Stardust. She took a curry comb and started to brush Stardust. Brushing a horse helped Kristie feel calm. After 30 minuetes of brushing Stardust's coat was so clean and sparkling that you could touch her and not a speck of dust would come off of her. Her feet were so clean there was not build up nor sawdust and dirt in them. Kristie then put back on the cooler and fed Stardust the last bit of carrot. Kristie then wraped her arms around Stardust's neck again and gave her horse one last hug for the night. She then made sure the stall was securely closed and went back into the tack room to put away her grooming kit and shut off the lights.
Kristie walked back to the house and once inside she walked past her parents who were drinking a cup of tea. She walked past them without a word. Once she climbed the stairs, she went into her room and got changed into her pyjamas. She then went into the bathroom and brushed her teeth. After the two minuets were up she went back into her room, where she went to her bookshelf and picked up My Friend Flicka the book she was currently reading. Kristie go into her bed and started to read. It was 10 o'clock when Kristie's parents came into her room and said good night. They then shut off Kristie's light and Kristie went to sleep.
Kristie woke up to a truck honking. Kristie jumped out of bed and rushed to get ready. Once she ran down the stairs and out into the yard she saw a woman dressed in a blouse and dress pants next to her was a man wearing a button down shirt and khakis, behind them was a huge silver horse trailer with the words Animals in Film Productions. Kristie's parent were already dressed and were talking to the man and woman. Her mother finally spotted her.
Ah this is my daughter Kristie. Kristie please go grab Superhorse for me.
Sure mom. The woman stepped forward towards Kristie, holding a black halter lined with fur and a black cotton lead rope attached. Here use this to catch him. the woman said.
Will do.
Kristie walked away from the group towards the paddock that Superhorse was kept in with the halter slung over her sholder and the lead rope trailing behind her. Superhorse came gladly to her and within seconds the lush soft halter was clipped to his face and he was being led by a new cotton lead rope. Kristie got back to the group with the horse in tow.
If you could just load him up into the trailer. our trainer will be in charge of him once we get to our destination.
Sure. but before I do that could I ask what you are going to be doing with him?
Sure our trainers are going to be training him to do tricks and star in movies.
Wow
Yes dear now if you could load him now we are on a very tight schedule.
Kristie led Superhorse away from the group and towards the trailer once in front of the ramp Kristie took a tight hold on the side of the halter because Superhorse had only been trailered twice they were told when they got him, Kristie had no reason to worry about him putting up a fight because Superhorse took it all in stride. Once hooked up inside the trailer Superhorse looked around his surrondings. Once he lost interest in what was around him, he started eating from his hay net. Kristie gave him a quick hug and said hope you do well at your new job and that the people treat you well. Goodbye sweet horse you were born to do this job. With that Kristie backed out of the trailer and headed back to the group of people.
Is he all loaded up?
Yes.
Ok we best be on our way, we have a few other horses to pick up today. Good bye. The man and woman hopped into the truck and Kristie's parwnt went over to the trailer and put up the ramp making sure it was secure. Once they stepped back the truck started down the path to get to the highway. Once that trailer was gone another truck came in dragging a horse trialer behind them.
It's going to be a long day. said her mother.
That it is. her father said.
