The Great Expedition

Chapter 15

When Kristie entered the house, the first thing she saw on the table was take out. Which her parents almost never got, she also saw that the whole kitchen was packed up into boxes. All the cupboards were empty, the pantry was bare and the fridge had nothing in it. 

Honey, tonight you are going to have to finish packing up your room tonight. The moving trucks will be here early in the morning and we want to leave by 11 at most. Kristie's mother said once they sat down for dinner.

Fine. Are you sure we can not take Stardust with us. 

Honey we already answered this. No we do not have enough money to transport a horse to Colorada, never mind pay for stabling and upkeep of her. When we get settled and make more money we will buy a new horse for you.

 I do NOT want any other horse, I want Stardust.

Ok how about when we get more money we can try and buy Stardust off of Rob if he has not already sold her.

And what if he does?

Then we will find you an even better horse to compete on.

I DON"T WANT ANY OTHER HORSE, I JUST WANT STARDUST. Kristie shouted.

Hey now lets calm down. We will figure something out when we get to that step. Her father said.

Fine what horses are staying on the farm?

Stardust unless you have found her a new home.

No

Stardust, Honeysuckle because she was too green for people to handle and the one person capable she did not get along with, that young appaloosa gelding because nobody wants a barely halter broke skittish green horse, that pie-bald gelding for the same reason, the broodmare because she is too old to be ridden faster then a walk maybe a trot but only for 2 minutes, Buckshot Rob personally bought him from us apperently he wants a really fast horse to ride and those two giant clysdesdales that we used for sleigh rides in the winter,  

So 8 horses are staying on the farm?

That's right. After dinner Kristie went up to her room and started to pack up all her stuff. First she wrapped all the ribbons she won on Stardust in bubble wrap to protect them. She then put all her books in a box, taped it shut and labbled it BOOKS. She then went into her closest and started stuffing clothes into a box. After her clothes were packed, Kristie started to empty her desk and bullitin board. After her whole room was packed except for her pillow, her blanket and a photo of Stardust, Kristie ran outside and into the barn. Once in the barn she wrapped her arms around Stardust's neck and started crying. After she run out of tears Kristie lied down in the sawdust and a few minutes Stardust lied down next to her. In a few minutes Kristie was in deep sleep with her beautiful beside her, ready to protect her if anything were to harm her girl.

When Kristie awoke, she saw she was covered in sawdust and a cooler. One of Kristie's parents must have gone out to the barn and saw Kristie sleeping. Kristie quickly ran up to the house to shower and put the final thing in boxes. After she was in jeans, a t-shirt and sneakers, she went back into the barn and grabbed Stardust's lead rope. Kristie went into Stardust's stall and tied the lead rope loosely around her neck. Once the pair was outside and in the giant field right beside the forest, Kristie asked Stardust to lie down so she could climb on her back and then asked her to stand. Kristie and Stardust walked around the field for a bit just enjoying each others company. After walking Kristie asked her for a trot and they trotted around for a while to get warmed up. Kristie and stardust then cantered around for a bit before Kristie slowed Stardust to a walk. After walking for a bit Kristie picked up a gallop, asking Stardust to go faster with every step until Stardust was going as fast as she can.

GO BABY GO!!! Kristie shouted at the top of her lungs. When she felt Stardust was begining to tire, she slowed her to a walk and they walked around the field until Stardust was cool. 

Do you want to go to the stream and wade in the water? Kristie asked her horse. Stardust bobbed her head and Kristie took that as a yes. The pair headed into the forest and past the clearing until they reached the stream. Kristie urged Stardust into the water up to her chest, Stardust started to paw the water and splashing her under belly. After about 30 minutes at the stream, Kristie and Stardust started to head back to the farm. When the pair reached the farm, Kristie saw a group of people standing outside the barn. When Kristie stopped Stardust in front of the people they all shouted, causing Stardust to spook and start rearing. The crowd of people quickly stepped back to avoid Stardust's hooves. Kristie quickly quieted Stardust and hopped down where she was met with her best friend Callie who was away in France. Logan stepped up next to Callie too. Callie handed Kristie a picture frame with a photo of Kristie and Stardust galloping through a field, Kristie nor Stardust was looking at the camera, both looked like they had no care in the world.

I hope you like it and that it reminds you of all the fun times you had with Stardust. Callie said. 

Thanks I will have it forever. Rob stepped forward and said.

Here why don't I take Stardust into the barn so you can open all your gifts and me and Stardust can get to know each other since she is going to be here with me.

How about no. She is fine with me and I will care for her when I'm done. Kristie said

Fine have it your way young lady. After all the gifts were open, Kristie took Stardust into her stall, untied the lead rope from her neck and put on her cooler for one last time. Kristie started to cry.

So this is it baby. I'm moving and you have to stay here. Please do not starve yourself to death. You were always the best horse on this ranch even if our start was a little rocky. I will never forget you pretty girl. Kristie gave Starudust one more hug and shut the stall behind her. Kristie got into the car but before she did, Logan came up and kissed her on the lips. 

Goodbye Kristie and Family. Everyone Shouted as the car drove off.
