Chapter 13

After all the chores were done Kristie went outside to see how Stardust was holding up. What she saw was Stardust and Honeysuckle tearing up and down the field, Stardust in first place then slowing down so Honeysuckle was in first place. Once they were finished racing they stopped for a few minutes to cath their breaths before they started a game of tag. Kristie laughed at their playfullness.

Excuse me. Can you go grab Honeysuckle for me and tack her up. Kristie turned around and came face to face with Melissa.

What are you doing here.

My trainer saw your ad for one of your sad hopeless pony, and she thought it would be good for me to train a horse because I have been complaining that all the horses she is having me ride are not good enough for me nor well trained enough.

What happened to your mare Arabesque.

Oh I sold her once she started misbeheaving and she could not jump as high as I wanted to. So now go grab that mare I don't have all day. Kristie walked into the paddock towards Honeysuckle and reached out to grab the leather halter attached to her face. Kristie then led her to the gate.

Are you going to open the gate or?

Ugggg fine if I must. Melissa unhooked the chain that kept the gate from swinging open. Kristie then led Honeysuckle up and into the barn with Melissa following a few steps behind. Once in the barn Kristie tied up the palomino mare in a pair of crossties and went into the tack room to grab a grooming kit. Back beside Honeysuckle, Kristie set down the kit and grabbed a brush, starting to brush the coat. Melissa walked over to the kit and grab a mane n tail comb and started on Honeysuckle's forelock. After Honeysuckle was sparkling clean, Kristie went into the tack room again to return the kit and grab a pad.

I have my own tack so you can put that dirty pad back and put on my clean tack.

Fine if that's what you want go grab it. Melissa left the barn and a few minutes later came back with her arms full of a gleaming brown bridal with a D-ring snaffle bit attached, a gleaming brown saddle, a crisp white saddle pad with not a speck of dust on it, a black half pad that had no tears or rips, a pair of horse boots with no scuffs on them, a wool lined leather girth, and a gleaming well oiled english saddle.

Honeysuckle has never had an english saddle on.

Whatever. Kristie took the saddle pad and half pad from Melissa's arms and put them on Honeysuckle's back.

No no no you put them on wrong. Here take this and I will place the pads correctly. Kristie took the rest of the stuff in her arms as Melissa positioned the pads how she wanted. Melissa then took the saddle from Kristie's off and put it on Honeysuckle's back and then grabbed the girth and when she did it up on the other side Honeysuckle squeled out and tryed to bite Melissa's arm. Melissa reached her arm up and hit Honeysuckle on the nose. Honeysuckle shot her head up the whites showing in her eyes.

Hey don't do that to her.

She was going to bite me. She needs to be disiplaned.

We usally do her girth up slowly over time.

Well if she comes with me she is going to need to get used to how I do things.

Whatever. Kristie bent down to one of Honeysuckle's front legs and started to place and do up one of the boots. She then went to the other leg and put on the other one.

Oh wait I forgot to get my bell boots and what kind of martigale do you use on her. I have a german, running and a standing martingale.

Um we don't use martingales on our horses.

Oh well I guess I can ride her with out one for now but if I think she needs one well we are riding I will ask that we put one on her.

Fine. Whatever. Kristie bridaled Honeysuckle while Melissa fixed her hair, put on her helmet and put on her gloves. The two girls and the mare walked out of the barn with Kristie leading Honeysuckle and Melissa walking on the other side of the horse. Once in the ring Kristie lined Honeysuckle up parrallel to the mounting box and held her head while Melissa got onto the mounting box and then into the saddle. Once Melissa was settled in the saddle, Kristie let go of the reins and Melissa squeezed Honeysuckle into a brisk walk.

Why don't you go grab your mare and ride her or would you rather just watch me the whole time?

OK if you don't mind.

Of course I don't it will make me look like a better rider if I ride with you.

Geez thanks.

Go grab your mare. Kristie walked over to the paddock and grabbed Stardust who was waiting at the gate then led her into the barn. Stardust was already clean from this mornings groom.

Should we show Melissa our awesome bareback skills? or just go with regular tack? Kristie asked her horse. To save time and to get started riding earlier Kristie decided to go bareback. After putting on a bare back pad and some clip on reins onto Stardust and some boots, gloves and a helmet for Kristie, they were ready. When they got into the ring Kristie saw that Melissa had already started to trot but slowed down to a walk when she noticed that Kristie had come into the ring.

Where is your tack? Melissa asked snootly.

I don't need tack I have perfect balence bare back and Stardust prefers it when we go bare back.

I doubt you have perfect balence bareback but it will make me look like a better rider when you keep slipping of her back.

Yeah right most of the time I go bareback unless I'm leading a trail ride or in a compettion.

Whatever just get on so we can ride. So this is how our ride is going to go. thought Kristie.

QOTD: What is your favorite hobby to do in your spare time?

Mine would be riding/spending time with my gelding and reading sometimes drawing but I kinda suck at that.
