Queen Scarlet had decided that Kestrel would enter the breeding program. She was a loyal guard, and hopefully any offspring she produced would be the same.
Queen Scarlet did not yet know how this was going to turn out. If she had, would she not have made that same decision, keeping a loyal guard, or would she have gone with it anyways, earning something perhaps far more valuable, rare... and dangerous? A dragon with firescales?
That is a question that we may never know the answer to.
A mystery.
You do not disobey your Queen unless you would like to be punished, and in the Sky Kingdom, punishments usually result in the death of the offender. Well, specifically, the punishment was fighting in the arena, and then dying from another dragon. Regarding this, it makes a good deal of sense that Kestrel chose to obey, and enter the breeding program, ignoring that, in her heart, she really didn't want to.
Kestrel was paired with a dragon named Soar, which, in Kestrel's mind, was quite a silly name, but she obeyed.
Kestrel was always obeying, it seemed.
Did she ever feel as if she wanted to disobey, or had Queen Scarlet put such fear in the hearts of her subjects that she never even thought about it? Until that one day...
