Three.. Four..

Something was always counting in her head. Her breathing, her steps, her blinking, her heartbeat. It was the only way she knew how to keep calm.

One, two, she took steps forward.

Three, four, deep, sharp breaths.

Five, six, she lifted her right arm.

Seven...

...

She furrowed her brows in pure frustration, burying her hand in her hair and growling to herself. She stormed back to her bed, screwing her eyes shut. One, two, one, two... No matter how much she tried to count, everything felt too loud for her to keep up with. She began to breathe rapidly, tightening her hand in her hair, growing more confused by the second.

She could still see herself in the pitch black with the cat. Why did she fall for it? She knew she was to be finding her way back, and she instead busied herself on a stupid feline. If she had just ran out of the hallway, maybe this wouldn't have happened...

Even then, she never knew who it was that attacked her, moreso, what. All she could see was something glaring at her, chuckling as it held her and dragged its sharp claws across her back.

She shuddered, remembering that after repeated attempts to kick the creature off, it had flung her into the wall. She had realized her head had been bleeding and quickly tried to scramble away, but was grabbed again.

Her breath quickened as she recalled the painful moment she felt jaws wrap around her left arm and start pulling. She let out a horrid scream and began kicking again, trying to send bolts down the creature's body. She was swung around, only then did she hear the deafening crack of her arm leaving her body.

Before she could scream again, her body thumped loudly against a dumpster and she fell to the floor, feeling dazed. It approached her slowly. She expected a swift demise... But...

"Go this way, asshole! We gotta get outta here!"

"Don't push me, we already heard some freaky shit, we don't even know where we are! Let's get going!"

Two different voices, dashing by the alleyway she was in. She wanted to scream out to them, but she couldn't...

As they passed, she noticed the creature had fled... The only thing left was her... And the cat...

...

She shouted awake, at least she thought she was awake now. She saw something that didn't make sense to her. She saw herself in a field of purples and whites. Trees were lined all around her, and all she could feel was a cool breeze and hear a sweet melody. It calmed her, but she was still confused...

Did she die?

She looked around, then at her arm. She was pleasantly surprised that it was there and reached to touch it, but it seemed to have avoided her hand and scattered away into butterflies?

Her arm was all butterflies. She lifted the brim of her gown and felt her back. There were also butterflies. All her injuries were snow white butterflies. They tickled her flesh as they set flight the more she tried to touch it.

She began to examine her left arm. It was strangely functional, as she could lift it and turn it around. She began to do her coping mechanism.

One two? Two fingers went up.

Three four, her other two followed behind.

Five... Her thumb.

She wanted to leap with happiness, a bright smile coming to her face. She sprung from where she was sitting, brushing petals and some butterflies off her gown and skipping forward. She wanted to tell Selever she got her arm back!

After a few seconds of frolicking, she parted her jaws to call his name, but there was only a static squeak, like a broken feedback on a microphone. She tried again, but was met with the same thing.

She frowned and furrowed her brows, looking concerned. The purple field around her began to go red and the butterflies began to bite hungrily at her flesh.

She cried out, trying furiously to rub them off and falling to her knees, but they simply fluttered away and went back to nipping and biting at her. In the reddening and dying field, she could see someone standing in front of her.

They didn't look tall, they looked short, but it was still intimidating. Their hair ran down their back, but she could see then that their arm was also made of butterflies, much like hers. She called out to them, her voice reverting back to the squeak.

As everything around them began to distort, a deafening ringing filled Rasazy's ears as she held her head. She peeked once more to see the person now turned around, their eyes and mouth full of the butterflies that consumed her arm.

She screwed her eyes shut, finally letting back out a dreaded scream.

She finally awoke with another scream, flying upwards and hyperventilating. She looked around her dark room, then at her arm.

Still just a flimsy ol' stub...

She flinched at the rumbling movement beside her. It was her brother... Trying to get some sleep...

Selever tiredly turned to her, then turned his whole body to her as he ushered her back down, placing his hand on her cheek and slowly hushing her.

She quivered a bit, but eventually fell into his touch, wrapping her arm tightly around him and holding him close. She could feel him rubbing her back, she only pulled him tighter in response.

"I know Rasa..." He quietly said, rubbing circles on her back. Under the fabric of her gown, he could feel the bandages wrapped around her back and abdomen. "It's gonna be alright, it was just a nightmare.." He continued to reassure, softly kissing her forehead.

In his arms, he could hear her quietly sob, his heart turning. They lay silent in the darkness as she cried herself back to sleep. Selever had dazed into the distant dark. He didn't know if he felt sad or angry, but he hated seeing his sister like this. He wanted justice for her, they all did, but all he could do for now is powerlessly be her source of comfort and hope it was enough.

It was more than enough for her.
