We went upstairs as Mina had suggested. "Nayeonie, I thought you wanted to say something?"
"Oh yeah, I almost forgot," I said, scratching the back of my neck.
I hadn’t really forgotten; I just wasn’t sure if she would accept my offer, especially since her breakup with Jackson was so recent. "Um, Mina," I began, but whether she agreed or not, I needed to at least try.
I held her hand and rubbed it gently with my thumb. "I don’t think you’re going to agree to this, but I need to ask you something." I looked into her eyes, filled with as much love as I could express. "W-will..."
I took a deep breath. "Will you let me help you forget him? Will you let me court you?"
There was a long silence. Maybe she wasn’t ready yet?
"It’s fine. Don’t feel like you have to answer right now," I said, giving her a smile and patting her back.
"I’ll go do something downstairs," I said, starting to leave, but then she spoke.
"I will let you, Nayeonie."
My heart skipped a beat. I looked at her and pulled her into a hug. "Thank you," I whispered.
She broke the hug and rested her forehead against mine. She looked into my eyes and then at my lips, slowly narrowing the distance. I saw her eyes close, and just as we were about to kiss, the door suddenly swung open, making us pull away in surprise.
"Oops! Sorry I ruined your wonderful moment," Jihyo said.
Yes, you did. Just be thankful you’re my best friend.
"I’m sorry for that, Nayeonie," Mina said, her cheeks flushed.
"It’s really fine, Mina," I said with a smile. "I’m going to take a bath. Do you want to join me?"
Her face turned red as she shyly fidgeted with her fingers. How cute!
"Yah!" she shouted, playfully punching my shoulder.
I exaggerated my reaction. "Ouch! That hurts," I said, pretending to be deeply hurt by her light touch.
"Wow! I didn’t even land a real punch on you," Mina said, frowning. "You deserve a granny."
"I mean, you’re already a grann—"
She pulled on my collar, cutting me off.
"What? Continue," she demanded with a glare. "If you’re cool, continue."
"Y-you know I’m not cool. I’m hot," I winked at her. She pretended to be disgusted, but I knew she liked it when I winked.
"Who said that to you?"
"Myself."
"Then date yourself," she rolled her eyes.
"And Somi."
"You can’t date her."
My eyebrows furrowed. "Why not?"
"She’s a minor. You’re a grandma," Mina giggled as I rolled my eyes.
"Whatever you say, Justin."
I headed into the bathroom while Mina sulked. "Who’s Justin?! That’s not even my English name!"
"Get yourself ready, Im Nayeon," she said seriously.
"Oh shoot. I’m dead."
"Run, Nayeon, run!" Ji-eun shouted as she saw Mina brandishing a broom.
"Come here, Im Nayeon!" Mina shouted.
"Mina, I dare you to put it between your legs!" I shouted. I saw her do it. "Jump! Jump! Jump!"
She jumped. "Why aren’t you flying?" I asked, and she glared at me.
We chased each other around until I finally gave up from exhaustion. Mina grabbed my hair gently, and we went back inside the house.
"Explain, who is Justin?!"
"I don’t know, I just randomly called you that," I panted.
"Don’t ever call me any names!" she said with annoyance.
"Yes, boss, I promise."
We both smiled at each other, and Ji-eun joined in as we hugged. We were all back on good terms. Yehey!
Nyn.
