Weeks after Mina and Jackson got back together, they got engaged. I don’t understand why Mina chose him; he’s clearly hurting her. I can’t make her choices for her, and it’s tearing me apart.
I heard a knock on the door and went downstairs to answer it.
"Mina?" I asked, surprised to see her.
She didn’t answer but hugged me instead. Tomorrow is her wedding—why is she here and not preparing?
"I missed you," she mumbled softly.
I slightly pushed her away. "After what you did? Do you think I can just accept that?"
Her eyes were sad. "Nayeonnie, can we talk?"
"We’re already talking," I replied coldly.
"I mean inside. Please, just for a minute."
I sighed and let her in. It’s hard to say no, especially when I don’t really have a choice.
"Nayeonnie, tomorrow is my wedding," she reminded me.
I didn’t answer.
"I need to tell you something," she said, looking nervous. "Jackson threatened me. If I chose you, he said he’d kill you. I didn’t want that to happen."
I noticed a purple bruise on her stomach. What’s that?
"What’s that?" I asked, pointing at the wound.
She quickly covered it with her hands. "Oh, it’s nothing."
"What the heck, Mina?! You should’ve told me last week about the threat so you wouldn’t have that bruise." I said, frustration and concern mixing in my voice.
"I’m sorry, Nayeonie. I was scared he’d hurt you," she said, her tears falling. "I love you, Nayeonie. Can we dance right now?"
I nodded, and played "Can’t Help Falling in Love."
She placed her arms on my shoulders, and I put mine around her waist. Our heads rested together.
"You’re the one I love, Nayeonie. Please forgive me for being numb and dumb," she said.
"What do we do? We love each other, but Jackson might hurt you if he finds out. It’s your wedding tomorrow," I said.
"I don’t know, but if he finds out, I will fight for us. Even if he hurts me, I’ll endure it if it means we can be together," she said.
I smiled, a tear slipping down my cheek. I’m happy she loves me, but sad that she’s about to marry someone else while I’ll just watch her with him.
We swayed to the music, feeling each other. It felt like a last dance. Maybe it’s just me who feels that way?
"I love you, Mina," I said, eyes closed.
"I love you too, Nayeonnie."
We closed the distance, our lips meeting in a slow, passionate kiss full of love.
She broke the kiss and said the words that made my heart race. "Please stop the wedding."
Nyn.
