It was back in Freshman year when I met Matt. He was in my Theatre Arts class. I remember the day vividly.

Oh my gosh! I'm so excited for my first day of college. I have theatre arts, math...

"HELLO EVERYONE, I HAVE ARRIVED!" this dude shouted as he entered the class late.

What is wrong with this guy! Does he have any human decency? Oh no...there's a seat next to me. He SAT DOWN NEXT TO ME. ugh. It'll be fine. I can survive two hours with a literal CLOWN next to me (sarcasm)

"Calm down, calm down everyone. Class has begun. I am Miss Isabella, and I will be your teacher this year. I love theatre, and I just graduated college so I know a lot about life in college..." she continued on forever. That's when the CLOWN decided to talk to me.

"Hey, I'm Matt. What's your name?" he whispered, looking into my eyes.

I rolled my eyes. "None of your business."

"Weird name," he responded as I scoffed.

"Okay, class, time for attendance!" Miss Isabella said. Gah. She called out names until she landed on my name, "..Nina Salazar-Roberts..."

"Here, and you can call me Nini."

Miss Isabella held a thumbs up and continued with attendance. "Matt Sanford?"

"Present!" his voice cracked. I smirked, and he scowled at me.

It was a pretty boring class, just going over the rules. I could tell Matt was getting bored.

Here's a list of annoying things he did during class:

Whispered nini in my ear x10 (I told him to shut up and that only my friends call me that)

Tapped me on the shoulder with his pencil

Shot a literal paper airplane (what is this...6th grade?)

Tried making 'jokes' (they were not funny)

It was finally the end of class, and I walked out. Matt followed behind me and shouted, "Bye, Niniiiiiiii"

"Only my friends call me that!" I rolled my eyes, laughing silently. I put my hand backward and waved without looking back.

End of Flashback

I smiled, recalling the memory as I drove to Matt's apartment. I arrived there and we talked for a long time, him just letting me rant. He listened to me silently and was patient the entire time. I wonder how I even thought of him as some annoying, snobby clown back then... In the end, he hugged me and I smiled. I told him that I should probably head out because it was almost 3:30 and I had to watch a performance done by some high schoolers and take notes on it for director's practice at 4:00.
