Guard Your Heart

I was naive,

so stupid.

I wasn't wise.

I wasn't quick

like a snake is.

I wasn't on guard,

i wasn't guarding

my heart.

I thought I could

do it; that I would

be fine.

But then my heart

without it's guard up

was tossed around

and played with

like a toy

and tossed away

carelessly

like it was trash;

my heart broken

like glass.

Now my heart

has healed

and has learned

to be on guard.

Guard your heart

above else,

for it determines

the course

of your life.
