If there was one thing you had learnt about Natasha it was that she didn't trust easily.

You had been fascinated by the redhead when you first joined the team a few months ago, the way she held herself with a quiet strength and was able to command the room with her presence was something you admired.

She was never rude to you but she had never truly warmed up to you either.

You saw the way she was with the others, playful banter filling their encounters. It was the sense of familiarity that drew you in, made you long to have the same rapport with Natasha. Her flirty jokes with Steve, her sarcastic comments with Tony, her nurturing manner with Wanda. You could tell that she trusted them all, her walls lowering enough to let them into her world.

She always looked most relaxed when Clint was around, more carefree with her words and actions with the person she considered the closest thing to a family. The ease in which they interacted was refreshing to see, you were glad she had someone she could be herself around.

You couldn't help but feel jealous though.

You had tried to worm your way into her good books, bending over backwards to seem approachable and likeable. She smiled at your jokes, responded to your questions, thanked you politely when you made her something to eat. She gave you pointers during training, helped you fill out mission logs, joined in on your conversations. But you still felt like she was keeping you at arms length.

She didn't trust you, that much was clear.

Wanda had told you to give it time and you knew she was right. You had heard snippets about Natasha's childhood, you knew why she didn't let people close to her. You understood, but that didn't stop you from craving her approval. You were captivated by her and you were determined to earn her trust.

No matter the cost.

It had been a quiet few weeks at the compound and everyone seemed to be on edge.

You hadn't been there long enough to have the same reaction as the others, choosing to spend your days off catching up on some reading. You weren't as used to the frantic pace that life as an Avenger brought so you didn't feel the tension like the others did, waiting for the next mission to roll in, the next bad thing to happen.

When the phone call came you were in the training room, practicing your sparring with Wanda. She had wanted to work on her hand to hand combat skills, fearing that she was relying too heavily on her magic.

Natasha had found the two of you, informing you of the briefing in five minutes before leaving as quickly as she arrived.

You and Wanda had packed up in a rush, the adrenaline rushing through you at the prospect of a new mission. You had hurried down to the conference room, finding the rest of the team already assembled inside. Steve quickly talked you through the mission, before you all left to go get ready.
