Alan Ashby

I woke up to my cat climbing over my face giving me a mouthful of fur. "Hi to you too" I chuckled trying to get the hairs out of my mouth.

I rolled out of bed and dragged myself over to my closet grabbing a pair of black skinny jeans and a black muscle shirt and some bracelets, pulling it on and hurrying out the door.

The new patients came today and I had to be there to bring them in and make sure no one attacked them. We had a guy come in a month ago and someone thought there where enough people already living there and stabbed him with a piece of a glass flower pot, and now everyone has to be overly cautious with new comers.

I hope the guys don't try anything with Lyndsey. They're the only ones in the least secure hallway and it gets pretty lonely in there. If she wasn't a patient I would have asked her to be my girlfriend the moment I met her, everything about her is perfect. She's slowly driving me crazy and I don't know how much more I can take before I break and tell her how I feel. I think as I pull up to the building to see the vans already pulled up by the front doors.

I hurried over and introduced myself to their parents, telling them about my job at the centre before going to bring in the guys. There where two people, one in a button down shirt and a red beanie with two rings tattooed around his elbow named Tyler, and one tall muscular man with bright red hair named Josh.

I walked them all into the building letting Tyler say goodbye. The Josh's cousin dropped him off and left before I got there. When the other two returned we registered them and went upstairs.

"So, do any of you know each other" I asked breaking the silence. "No" Tyler said quietly. "Well you'll have lots of time to get to know each other" I smiled "these are your rooms, and across the hall is Lyndsey, she's been here six years, so she will answer your questions. And that's all on this floor." They nodded and went into their rooms to unpack. "Oh and I almost forgot." I added as I told them the list of things they would need.

I heard a clock across the hall and looked up to see Lynn wearing a red long sleeved night dress with the number 65 on the front and knee socks and her waves hair hanging over one shoulder as usual. She looked gorgeous.

"Good morning Lyndsey, these are your new neighbours, Josh Dun, and Tyler Joseph" I introduced pointing to them as I said their names. She smiled shyly and waved before disappearing back into their rooms.

After I got the guys situated and went over to visit Lynn. "Not feeling like visiting any new people today?" I asked. "I haven't for the last six years of my so called life, why would I start now?" She shot back. I sat on the other side of the window ledge facing her. She looked so broken, i just wanted to hug her and tell her i could get her out of here, but I couldn't. The truth is I was barely keeping myself out of here. Mentally I'm about as stable as the patients in here.

I felt my phone buzz in my pocket with a text from the main room 'any free hands needed in the art room'. I brushed my hand on her bare leg to get her attention. "I have to go, you really should talk to one of them. they're not violent, they're both just like you" and then I left.

Lynn Gunnulfsen

A while after Alan left I decided to try and talk to one of them.

As I was about to open the door there was a knock. A boy with short brown hair that stuck up a bit in the front stood on the other side. "H-hi" I stuttered. He looked me up and down and I felt my self confidence hit an all time low. I felt like he was judging me on everything.

"Hi I'm Tyler" he replied. I smiled at his raspy voice, it wasn't too deep but it wasn't high at all. It was the perfect balance in between.

We stood there for a while studying each other. he wore a white shirt with the sleeves ripped off, with a wrist full of string bracelets and black sweatpants. Around his elbow there where two solid black stripes tattooed, and a few symbols on his other wrist.

He had the most beautiful brown eyes I've ever seen, next to Alan's of course, but they showed that he could break at any moment. like he didn't know what he was living for.

He was undoubtedly good looking but I still noticed a few things that I saw on a lot of people around here. He was scarily skinny, and pale with dark circles around his eyes. He looked as if he hadn't smiled in years, like there was a constant pain and sadness in his life.

"Um, come in?" I asked. he nodded and walked in sitting in my swing chair in the corner. "You play guitar?" He questioned noticing the guitar on my bed. I nodded picking up my book to start writing an idea that just flew into my mind. "Do you mind?" He asked picking the guitar up. "Go ahead" I encouraged. He grinned and sat on the edge of my bed and started playing and singing

'Hello
We haven't talked in quite some time
I know
I haven't been the best
Of sons
Hello
I've been traveling in
The desert of my mind
And I
Haven't found a drop
Of life
I haven't found a drop
Of you
I haven't found a drop
Of water

I try desperately to run through the sand
As I hold the water
In the palm of my hand
Cause it's all that I have
And it's all that I need and
The waves of the water
Mean nothing to me
But I try my best
And all that I can to
Hold tightly onto
What's left in my hand
But no matter how
How tightly I will strain
The sand will slow me down
And the water will drain
I'm just being dramatic
In fact,
I'm only at it again
As an addict with a pen
Who's addicted to the wind
As it blows me back and forth
Mindless, spineless, and pretend
Of course I'll be here again
See you tomorrow
But it's the end of today
End of my ways
As a walking denial
My trial was filed as a crazy
Suicidal head case
But you specialize in dying
You hear me screaming
Father
And I'm lying here just crying
So wash me with your water'

"Well I guess I'll be seeing you in music tomorrow" I chuckled. "Maybe, I'm not great, but writing cleans it out up here" he said pointing to his head. "I know what you mean" I replied looking at my book. We talked for a few hours about ourselves. He was interesting, he was twisted yet made me almost happy.

"why are you here?" I asked. the question was burning me since he got here. "I wanted to meet my neighbour" he looked up. "Not here, I mean here, in the asylum" i pried. He smiled darkly and let out a small sinister laugh "I'm insane, but aren't we all" true, I thought.

"Hey man I was going down to get something to eat, you want to come" the other new guy, josh, I think his name was "you too Lynn" Tyler stood up and offered me a hand. "I'm good, maybe later" I rejected. The sheer thought of food made my stomach flip.

Tyler looked at me sadly knowing why I didn't want to come. "Just come sit, in not hungry either" I grabbed his hand pulling myself up and walking out the door to go downstairs.

I think I really like these two.

That was terrible but keep commenting and voting. And feel free to make suggestions on what you want to happen, this is only my second book so I'm not great at this whole writing thing.
