The night became increasingly colder as thick, low clouds moved in, shrouding the landscape in a dark, foreboding gloom. Jeon Jungkook, stood by the window, gazing out as the clouds obscured the moon, its once reassuring glow now swallowed by the approaching storm.
He could feel it in his bones-the telltale signs that another heavy snowfall was imminent. The air was damp and crisp, and he shivered involuntarily as a gust of wind rattled the windowpanes.
His heart ached with a profound sense of longing as he turned away from the window, his expression blank. He missed his husband, Kim Namjoon, more than he cared to admit. The void left by Namjoon's absence felt particularly heavy tonight.
Time felt like it was dragging on for him, each minute ticking by like an hour. Jungkook was no stranger to waiting for Namjoon; it was a frequent occurrence that came with being married to someone so dedicated to his work.
However, tonight, the wait felt unbearably slow, almost torturous. They had come to this secluded farmhouse for their first night together-what should have been a romantic honeymoon after a year of their arranged marriage. A year that had unfolded with its ups and downs, challenges and triumphs.
At first, Jungkook had been hesitant to agree to come here, his heart resisting the idea of a getaway that felt forced. But, ultimately, he couldn't say no to his older brother-in-law, Kim Seokjin, who had practically pouted and coerced him into going.
Seokjin had always been a master at getting his way, and Jungkook's adorable sulky demeanor had failed to persuade him this time. The thought of disappointing Seokjin, who meant so much to him, was unbearable.
It wasn't that Jungkook was unwilling to accompany Namjoon; rather, it was the harsh reality that Namjoon had opted to stay behind. Jungkook would gladly sacrifice everything for Namjoon, doing whatever it took to ensure his happiness, for he knew that causing Namjoon pain would ultimately result in his own heartache.
The love he felt for Namjoon was deep and unwavering, but the distance created by work often loomed large between them.
The couple had arrived at the charming farmhouse together, the quaint rustic decor promising a cozy retreat. But as was his habit, Kim Namjoon had to leave soon after their arrival, bound to his demanding career.
He had informed Jungkook about his urgent meeting-one that could make or break a crucial dream contract-and in that moment, Jungkook felt a pang of loneliness. Namjoon had even cautioned him not to inform Seokjin about his early departure, wanting to spare him any worry.
As the hours dragged on and solitude wrapped around him like a heavy blanket, Jungkook found himself glancing at the clock, a sense of urgency building within him.
After a prolonged waiting period that made his heart ache from the quiet, he finally picked up his phone and dialed his husband's number. He held his breath, thanking his lucky stars when Namjoon answered on the fourth try, breaking the suffocating silence.
"Who is it?" came Namjoon's voice, laced with fatigue and irritation.
"It's me," Jungkook replied quietly, his voice barely above a whisper.
"I don't recognize anyone who goes by 'me.' Sorry." Namjoon was about to disconnect the call, and Jungkook felt a surge of desperation.
