'Just ask for directions to the magic place'

Dad had said as he and Mom waved me away two weeks after dropping that bomb on me. Apparently I was old enough to live on my own because Imps reach adulthood in 7 years and I was still playing with dolls like a baby Imp.

I was clearly still a child, I was obviously more human than Imp and aged slower as a consequence. I was still a small child in human standards so this was completely ridiculous. Of course they were completely unrepentant and firm on their decisions.

Well don't blame me if I decide to never come back then! Stupid parents. At least that ugly dependant love I used to crave had simmered down to only needing a hug every couple weeks.

It still sucked. I was gonna miss those assholes. They were so refreshingly rude and hilarious.

So off I went to join the humans.

I trekked through the magically expanded forest and went through the wards and immediately found myself on the outskirts of the forest with a roaring highway in front of me. I blinked at the sight of so many vehicles and looked around in bafflement. I turned around and looked at the forest behind me to see nothing more than a small tuft of bushes and the occasional tree in the middle of an entire intersection.

Magic was fucking brilliant.

It was no wonder the humans could never find us! We were hidden in between a whole human village in a small copse of trees! How is it that I never noticed this before?

Actually where the hell am I?

I looked around for a sign and hummed thoughtfully. I was in Brighton, England, and London was only a few hours north of here by car. Mom was right about heading North to London. Though the community of Brighton was a lot bigger than she explained it to me.

I didn't know we were in the middle of an entire city! This is beyond amazing! I'd never experienced a city of this magnitude before, and I was excited to explore everything about it. I started off by getting a sense of where I was and circling the area where I lived until I had a whole 200 meter radius mapped out. Then I did a mile, and two before it was getting too dark to see.

I contemplated going back inside the wards but found I'd been shut out. I didn't know the first thing about going through wards or detecting them. I could feel that there was magic here but it was faint and didn't give any indication on how to access it. I blinked blearily at the small copse of trees before huffing and turning towards the road and running across when there were less cars about.

I started towards the North until I found a proper spot to hide my trunk. Underneath low hanging trees in the backyard of an abandoned house. I mumbled out a charm to make the trunk unnoticeable and opened it up and hopped inside.

A week passed where all I did was explore the city of Brighton, chatter to the homeless and practice my English, and eat foods from food stands with human money I stole since my bag of magic gold didn't count as money here. I would have cooked meals for myself in the trunk, but I was far too eager to eat all the human foods available to me now.

Finally I realized that I needed to start heading to the magic place of London soon if I wanted to properly integrate into the magic human community. Hanging out with the homeless humans of Brighton was fun and all, but I wanted more from my life than just surviving day to day stealing and pooping in the alleys to get by.

So I shrunk my trunk with my Imp magic, put it in my pocket, and made my way North to London. It wasn't too bad of a walk for the first few days, and it gave my muscles some well needed exercise.
