Typically, Alice's visions were really helpful, but every once in a while, they shook her to her core. This was one of those. It had left her shaking and knowing that, if she could, she'd be crying. "Alice?" She hardly heard Edward over her mind replying the vision. "Alice?!" Alice jumped this time.
"I have to go," was all she said before practically flying from the house. She was thanking her luck that her vision had you close to town. She wouldn't be able to explain her lack of car if you'd been further away. She ran as fast as she could to the woods surrounding your home. This was where she saw it happen. She took a moment to sniff the air. Nothing except the woods, a few woodland creatures, and you.
"Alice?" Alice pretended to be startled. "Oh, hi, Y/N!" she cried when she turned around. You arched a brow at her. "What are you doing out here? In this weather?" Alice hadn't even noticed the rain in her haste to find you. She gave a little shrug. "I love the rain and thought I'd take a walk. I lost track of time, I guess." You gave her a smile.
"Would you like to come inside and dry off?" Alice let her gaze wander over the woods before she nodded. "I'd like that." You gestured for her to follow you into the small house. Alice followed after, but she was still on edge. She hoped that her decision to come out had changed the future. Or your choice to allow her in the house.
"Are you alright, Alice? You seem a little spaced out. I mean, more than usual." Alice chuckled a little. It didn't bother her that you said something like that. Most people didn't even talk to her because they thought she was weird. You embraced her weirdness. You were the closest friend she had outside of her own family.
Alice still kept an ear out while you wandered around your home looking for clean towels to help her get dry. You were humming a soft tune that made Alice smile. "Here you go!" you announced cheerfully when you came back into the living room. Alice smiled at you again, but froze as another vision hit her. In the back of her mind, she could hear you calling her name, but she couldn't reply. Whatever was after you, had changed their mind again and they were heading your way.
Alice came out of the vision and stared at you with wide eyes. "You okay?" you asked. Alice took an unneeded breath. "Y/N, I need you to listen to me. I need you to go upstairs and lock yourself in the bathroom. Don't come out until I come get you, okay?" Your brows furrowed. "Please." You opened your mouth to argue, but just then, the sound of someone trying to get in your back door hit your ears. Your eyes met Alice's again before you darted upstairs without another word.
You pressed your ear to the door, listening to what was happening downstairs. There were the unmistakable sounds of a fight and it took everything in you not to run down there and help Alice. The pixie-like girl was your closest friend. You didn't want anything to happen to her. But she'd asked you to stay put. If being down there would distract her and get her hurt, you didn't want to risk it.
After what seemed like hours, someone knocked on the door. You hadn't even heard them coming up the stairs which was weird. "Y/N? It's okay. You can come out now," Alice's voice drifted through the wooden barrier between you. Without waiting a beat, you flung the door open and threw your arms around Alice.
"You're okay," you whispered. It took a moment to realize that Alice was standing there stiffly. You pulled away and noticed that her normally topaz eyes were now as black as coal. "A-Alice?" Alice swallowed thickly. "I have to go. I-I just...I have to go." You moved to grab her wrist, but she quickly put distance between you two. "Sorry. I'll come back in a bit and explain, but I really have to leave right now. You're safe." With that, she was gone.
Alice was kicking herself. She'd saved you from the nomads, but at what cost? The blood lust had become too strong while she was fighting off you're attackers. If she hadn't left, she knew she would have hurt you. She needed to feed quickly. Alice knew you had questions and were stubborn enough to not let what had happened go. You'd figure it out one way or another, especially if what Alice suspected was true. That you were her mate. She'd seen you in visions before that told her it might be true.
*time skip*
After feeding, Alice felt a little more calm. She returned to your home after she called her family and told them what had happened. Almost everyone was understanding. Of course Rosalie had objections as did Edward (the hypocrite), but Alice didn't care. You were more important to her.
You opened the door before Alice even made it there. Your arms were crossed over your chest in frustration, but your expression was one of concern. "Alice, what happened?! You show up out of nowhere with some lie and then I have to hide in my bathroom, which you knew BEFORE anyone even tried to come into the house. Then you rushed off without a word. How did you know?"
Alice held up a hand to slow your questions. "I promise I'll explain. May I come in?" You moved to let her in and Alice sat gracefully on the sofa. "I need you to promise that you'll listen to everything I have to say and don't interrupt, okay?" Once you nodded in agreement, Alice launched into her tale, praying that you would believe her.
By the time Alice finished, you were staring at her with your mouth open. For a moment, you said nothing. Alice wasn't surprise, but based on her visions, she knew you'd accept everything eventually. "So, you and your family are vampires...you don't drink from humans and some of you have extra abilities. You can see the future. Did I get the main points?" Alice nodded and you fell silent again.
It seemed like an eternity before you spoke again. "Okay." Alice blinked. She hadn't expected you to be alright with everything that soon. "Okay?" she asked and you nodded. "Aren't you scared?" You shrugged. "Oh, I'm terrified. But not of you. You just saved my life and in the all the time I've known you, you've never once posed a threat to me. You've had hundreds of opportunities to hurt me and you never have. I trust you, Alice."
If Alice could have blushed she would have. "I do have one question though," you continued. Alice asked what you meant. "Why did you save me? You had a vision and came all this way to save me. Why?" Alice flashed you a charming smile. "Because I couldn't imagine being without you. Because you're my best friend," she began before taking another breath that she didn't need and continuing, "And because I love you. As much more than a friend."
You stood up, walked over, and joined Alice on the sofa. You took one of her freezing cold hands in yours. "Well that's good. I really thought I'd drown in my feelings if I didn't get them out soon. I love you too, Alice. Weird vampire visions and all." You leaned over and pressed a kiss to her cheek. At that point, Alice knew that if she weren't a vampire, her face would be on fire.
