(You should read part 1 first!)

The next few weeks were positively miserable for the two Elite guards. They would often see you, but never approached you. They didn't want to risk you completely breaking them. Not to mention they were worried about how long Aro would remain patient. He'd given them the opportunity to try and win you over before taking the choice away from you. Who knew how long that would last though...Aro wasn't exactly a patient man. Fortunately, it didn't look like they would have to wait long.

One evening, you had returned to the piazza with Demetri and Felix trailing behind you. You sat back down on the same bench with the same book opened next to you. The only thing different was your demeanor. You weren't carefree or smiling this time. Instead you looked deep in thought with a expression of pure anguish on your face.

After a while, you sighed and whispered, "I know you're there." Felix and Demetri exchanged a glance as they decided whether or not reveal themselves. Demetri had been so broken and angry while Felix was simply a shell. He performed his duties without his usual oomph. They didn't think they could take another rejection from you.

"Just come out," you prompted and the two finally approached you. They expected you to glare at them or yell. Anything. Instead, you simply looked confused and tired. "Why have you been following me?" you asked without warning. Felix and Demetri looked at each other and then back at you. "We have not. We come here every evening in hopes of seeing you. Of seeing that you are well. But we have not been following you. The Masters...they most likely have someone watching you to make certain you do not reveal anything."

Demetri's explanation did nothing to ease any worries you had. Instead, it seemed to make you angry. Felix could see the fury building in your body as your shoulders tensed and your eyes flashed with fire. "Who would believe me anyway? I am not some damn criminal they can keep tabs on. I will not stand for this! I didn't ask to be pulled into this mess and I sure as hell am not going to sit idly by and let them try to control me."

Demetri held up his hands, fear momentarily crossing his expression. "Tesoro," he began softly, "We know you are angry, but do you truly believe that confronting the leading coven of the vampiric world is the best idea for a human? Even most vampires wouldn't dream of it. You are...fragile, amore." You rounded on him, poking his chest with your finger.

"I. Don't. Care. They don't get to decide how my life goes or doesn't." Felix decided it was time to step in. "Y/N, amore, we will protect you should anything happen. There are laws against harming another vampires true mate. However, this is a horrible idea. Humans that know about us must be killed or turned. There are no exceptions. If you confront them, the masters will be angry. Because you are our mate, they will turn you without your consent. It would pain them to do so, but our laws are clear."

At that, your shoulders relaxed a bit although the anger was still obvious in your eyes. "I don't like being treated like property or like a criminal. I'm already in over my head with this. Having a watch dog only makes it worse." Felix had to bite back a laugh. Clearly you didn't know about the wolf shifters.

You stood there for a moment, arms crossed over your chest and looking like you were trying to decide what to do. "I want to talk to them," you stated after a while. Both Felix and Demetri began arguing, but you held up a hand. "I'll keep my cool, but this can't keep on. What are they going to do when my term here is over? Have someone follow me back home? It's too much." After the three of you debated for a bit longer, you finally wore the two vampires down. Not that they'd really refuse you anyway. They both wanted you to be happy and you clearly weren't. To that end, they led you back to the castle and to Felix's room until they could gather Aro, Caius, and Marcus.

That was how you found yourself standing in the throne room about an hour later. "Such a joy to finally meet you, Ms. Y/L/N," Aro greeted. You simply glared before telling him, in no uncertain terms, that you were absolutely not okay with the way things were being handled. "I don't appreciate the babysitters. I'm not some pet for you to have on a leash." Every other vampire in the room tensed. No one dared speak to the masters that way.

"Curb your tongue, mortal," Caius snapped, causing you to turn your gaze sharply to him, but said nothing at first. Instead you took a deep breath. You had promised to keep your cool after all. "I have a name and I appreciate if you used it. I don't call you 'blood-sucking murderer' or 'sour-faced Ken doll', do I? Felix and Demetri have informed me of your laws. I know what has to happen. But consider this from my point of view. I'm in a strange country suddenly thrown into a world I knew nothing about and am apparently the mate of not one but two vampires. Add to that now that the leaders of my mates' coven deem it necessary to have me watched. You're like cats waiting for the mice to scurry passed. How is that fair? You haven't even given me a chance to consider anything about this situation. Now, I'm not even sure I want to."

Caius looked like he was about to explode, but Aro stopped his fit of temper by calling Felix and Demetri. "It seems we have much to discuss. Your mate does not appear at all happy." Your two mates began speaking in hushed tones with Aro, leaving you standing there feeling awkward. That is, until Marcus approached you. He offered you his arm and a soft smile that seemed out of place on his usually bored face.

"Come along." You hesitated, causing Marcus to laugh softly. "I will not harm you. I believe I can be of some assistance in this matter." You bit your lip. It was a really bad idea to go off with a strange vampire. Still, it was better than staying there where Caius was still looking ready to murder you. So you took Marcus' arm and let him lead you from the room.

Marcus lead you to a nearby room that turned out to be a study of some sort. He sat down behind the desk and gestured for you to take the chair opposite him. For a beat, he simply looked at you as if he were trying to decide the best way to speak to you. "Your bonds with Felix and Demetri are already very strong," was what he chose to say, causing your brows to draw together in confusion. "What do you mean? I hardly know them."

"It is my gift. I can see the bonds between people. The bond between Felix and Demetri is silver, indicating their bond as soul brothers. It glows brightly. The bond between you and the two of them is golden. While the glow is faint, it is there. It tells me that a part of you, no matter how small, has already begun to accept the bond."

You sat, unsure of what to say. This was a lot of information and you really wanted to deny it. "I-If I choose not to accept the bond? What would happen?" Marcus frowned a bit. "They would become like me...or worse. Without our mates, vampires become shells of themselves. Some even choose death over living without their true mates. I had my soul brothers to keep me from completely descending into madness. Felix and Demetri have the rest of the Volturi, but who is to say that it would be enough?"

"If I reject them, they could die?" Marcus nodded solemnly. "Yes, but the choice must be yours. They would want you to be happy no matter what. Regardless of the choice you make, you would still have to be turned. You must think carefully before making your decision, my dear." With that, he rose from his seat and offered his arm again. "I believe we are needed once again." You stood and took his arm, letting him guide you back to the throne room and your mates.

Once in the throne room, Felix and Demetri were instantly at your side, making you jump. They both wore worried expressions. "Are you alright, tesoro?" You glance between both of them and nodded. You met Marcus' gaze before smiling a little. "I'm fine. I-I think I'd like to talk to you both. Alone." Demetri's brows furrowed. "I need to get to know my mates, don't I?" you whispered. Demetri chuckled and the rare, genuine smile that graced Felix's features was wide enough to frighten even Jane.
