It didn't take too long for Techno to return with the A.I. Language Learner. The perks of parking close I guess.
Phil was properly preparing the small crew to enter the crash (despite Wilbur having already confirmed there really wasn't anything harmful). Despite Wilbur's protests, Phil really wasn't up for breaking more rules at the moment. The phantom was fidgeting and pacing while Phil flitted around, preparing himself and Wilbur (He had enough faith in Techno that he wouldn't go running in without being prepared) for an official venture into the wreak.
"Phil, what if we can't find them? The longer we wait, the more likely we won't be able to find them," Wilbur rambled, Phil giving him an almost exasperated look, "We don't know how fast they are."
"Mate, I know you're worried, I am too," Phil flung a light armor jacket at Wilbur, "Put that on. Anyway, if we don't prepare properly, we could get in a lot of trouble if we're found out. I'm sure you know that the best out of all of us."
Wilbur averted his eyes, a nervous laugh exiting his mouth.
Wilbur put on the jacket.
Finally, after putting a small device, the A.I. Language Learner, in the pouch on his belt, Phil nodded to Techno.
"Ok, lead the way Will."
The trio entered the gash in the side of the ship, Wilbur trying to rush the others to the last place he had seen the kid. They followed the twists and turns of the crash, until they arrived at the room Wilbur had first seen the creature.
"This is where I saw them," Wilbur crossed the room, placing his hand on smooth surface of what he assumes is a powered off screen, "All their food is locked back here, I guess they gave up trying to get it..."
Wilbur glanced around the room, double checking the child wasn't still in the room.
"Hmm, should we split up to find them?" Techno suddenly suggested.
Phil turned to him, his expression would have made you think that Techno had just told him he killed his mother.
"Technoblade? The first incident team rule is to not split up?" Philza gaped. He fully expected this from Wilbur, but now Techno?
"Hey, it'd be faster. Weren't you the one who said you didn't want to be in the crash longer than necessary?" Techno shrugged.
Wilbur noticed the ruffling for the elytrian's feathers as he seemed to be debating the option. I mean, Wilbur had already broken one of the rules and there was a child on this ship who is (probably) in need of help.
"Fine, fine, but if anyone finds anything, you have to alert the rest of the crew immediately," Philza relented.
Wilbur nodded, glad that they would hopefully find the kid quicker. Phil laid down a couple of rules, mostly for Wilbur before the trio went their separate ways.
Wilbur sped down the hall he had chosen, not quite running, not quite walking. Will found himself in a hall of repeated doors, all looking the same. There were what appeared to be labels of some kind. The (what Wilbur assumed was) text was completely unfamiliar to him so it wasn't like he could use those to figure out where he was in the ship. The majority of the doors were sealed shut but he did notice an open door not too far down.
He made it to the open door in what felt like only a couple steps, glancing inside. Wilbur's eyes quickly darted to the small figure half draped into a recess in the wall, their upper half resting on the soft looking material on the ledge and their lower half hanging off to the ground. It took a few moments for Wilbur to realize that the figure was the kid along with he fact they seemed to be unconscious.
Stepping back into the hall, not wanting to disturb the kid if they were only resting, Wilbur tapped his communicator.
"Hey, I found them. They're unconscious but I think they might just be resting, like Phil does," Wilbur alerted his crew mates.
"Alright mate, do you wanna send us your location so I can come over in case they wake up," Phil paused almost seeming to reconsider something, "or do you wanna bring them and meet us at our ship?"
"No," he replied " I got this,"
"Stop talking like an action hero, Will."
Wilbur started to sputter a retort but gave up at the overlap of chirp-like laughter and monotone chuckles.
"Ok, meet you back at the ship and we can meet the creature you got so attached too," Techno deadpanned.
Wilbur crinkled his nose at the statement before remembering that the piglin couldn't see him.
"I'm not 'attached', I'm just worried that there's a kid all by themselves, anything could happen."
Techno made a noise through the speaker, "Sure, whatever you say Will."
Wilbur promptly muted Techno on the communicator. He knew he'd get scolded for it later, something about a safety risk but Will wasn't about to get teased by Techno Fucking Blade.
Wilbur turned back into the room, his eyes landing softly on the kid.
He wasn't attached, he hadn't even had a conversation with them.
The phantom leaned down, remembering how easily Phil wakes up, and gently lifts the child in his arms. They felt so small, though, Wilbur didn't actually know the average size of this species, he was only basing it off of the similarities between them and Phil.
Luckily, the kid didn't wake up, even as Wilbur carried them through the crash, getting to the entrance gash relatively quickly. Phil was standing there, anxiety clear on his face.
"Are they asleep? They could be passed out, what if the oxygen levels are too low on this planet?" Phil started one of his worried parent rambles.
"I thought we were going to meet at the ship?" Wilbur couldn't help but tease, quickly returning to the actual matter at hand, "I was assuming that it was just like how you have to sleep for a few hours every 48 hours, I imagine a ship crash and the resulting panic would wear a kid down pretty fast."
"They probably also just came out of deep sleep, or some primitive version of that," Techno suddenly hopped out of the gash, landing behind Wilbur, "I found a room full of what looks like pods. I think you were right about him being the only survivor. There was one pod that was broken. The rest had, uh, bodies in them. They weren't showing signs of life, but I might have missed something due to nonexistent knowledge on the species."
"Poor kid."
Wilbur couldn't help the shiver that ran up his spine. He had really been hoping his guess was wrong.
"Uh, well, we should get back to the ship. Hopefully we can get some food for the kid before they wake up." Wilbur suggested, already starting towards the edge of the crater.
He felt the figure in his arms lean further into him, he assumed, unconsciously.
His crew could protect and help this kid, he was now just really hoping they would actually wake back up.
