A New World (Shadow x Reader)

Chapter 1: The Taking

"Thanks, Y/N. I'll meet you back here tomorrow." Ms. Riley stood up and dismissed me. I couldn't help but be glad, her tutoring sessions were so boring. I began to walk out of the library and make my way towards my house.

It was a normal Tuesday, which meant today was boring. Everyday is pretty boring for me. I don't really have friends since I'm known to be 'rude' but at least I have the internet. Whenever I leave school I usually just go home and do whatever on my phone, but today I was sadly stopped by one of the most annoying kids, Liam.

"Hey Y/N! Wanna go get lunch with me?" For some reason, he has always been so persistent on getting me to go out with him. I never did though, I hated people and especially kids like him.

"No." I answered back bluntly. I continued to walk away but the pest just kept following me!

"That's fine! Let's just talk!"

"No thanks." That was the nicest he was going to get.

"C'mon, Y/N! You never wanna hangout!"

"Because you're annoying." I nearly snapped.

"Your mom doesn't think so." He giggled. My eye twitched, I just about had it with him and I was ready to launch an attack at him when suddenly blue swirling lights came between us. He backed away slowly as I did the same, and suddenly a black and red hedgehog emerged from the portal...?

"AHHHH!" Liam screeched. I would've smacked him if he weren't on the other end of the portal.

"Shut up, Liam! I just wanted to go home and now I have to deal with this! This is your fault!" The hedgehog looked at the two of us bickering and seemed to be aggravated.

"You're dealing with this, I'm out." I started to walk away from the two when I felt a tug on my wrist. I knew it wasn't Liam reaching for me.

"You're not going anywhere." I turned around and noticed it was the hedgehog holding me, I tried to pull away but the damn thing was just too strong!

"Back away from my Y/N!" Liam yelped, springing towards the two of us. The hedgehog thingy moved us out of the way as Liam jumped onto the ground. I cringed at the sight.

"You know what? Anything's better than being called 'my Y/N' let's go hedgehog!" I finally stopped squirming in his grip as he just raised a brow at me.

"Say your goodbyes. You won't be coming back." That's when I panicked. This is not what I signed up for.

"Wait! What? No! I'm not coming with you!" I started resisting again but it was no use. He started dragging me into the portal as Liam tried one last time to grab me but failed. He was too late.

"WHAT THE HELL?! TAKE ME BACK!" I screamed as he pulled me into the blue flashing lights. The hedgehog said nothing in response, making me even angrier. After a few seconds we reached an unfamiliar grass land. I was quite dizzy from the portal but I couldn't give up just yet. I started going back towards it as the hedgehog watched my unsteady walking.

"I demand you to take me back-!" That's when I collapsed. The world started spinning and the last thing I saw was that red and black hedgehog standing over me.

"Sweet dreams, Y/N."

When I awoke, I noticed I was laying on a green couch. I seemed to be in some sort of shack? I began to think the whole situation was a dream until I saw a blue looking hedgehog enter the house and approach me.

"Woah! You're awake! How are you feeling?" The blue thing said as he stood above me.

"Where am I?" I winced as I reached for my forehead and rubbed it.

"Back at my place! Shadow was the one who brought you here. He should be here soon."

"Why did he bring me here?" I groaned.

"You have special abilities." The blue hedgehog stated so simply. What? I'm a human and I was brought into some weird animal kingdom! What's going on with my life? I just want my same old normal boring one back!

"Listen, this is probably very confusing for you but it's true. The chaos emeralds sensed your powers and sent Shadow after you." Chaos emeralds? More questions that were unanswered...at least I knew my kidnappers name.

"Name?"

"Sonic the hedgehog! Pleasure to meet ya!" Sonic smirked as he held his hand out for me to shake. I hesitantly shook it.

"No need to be afraid of us. We're here to help you." Sonic tried to reassure me. I had to admit, he was much kinder than Shadow but it still didn't calm me down.

"Yeah, that's why you kidnapped me..." I muttered.

"Call it saving. Eventually, your powers would've been noticed and who knows what could've happened to your world." He paused. "But here, we can help you control and use them. Besides, we need you." What could you possible need me for?! Was the question that I was dying to ask. Although, I was too afraid for the answer.

"I'm going to call the others and tell them you're awake." Sonic walked away and went into the kitchen. Well, at least they had phones.

A few minutes later, I heard a doorbell ring and Sonic walked over to open it. My mouth nearly dropped at the sight of all the animals standing there. What kind of hell hole was I sucked into?!

"Hey Y/N! I want you to meet the gang!" Sonic walked over with about 10 other animals. The only one I recognized was Shadow. He seemed annoyed by my presence though, so I didn't bother to greet him.

"How do you know my name anyway?" I looked back at the group.

"The chaos emeralds told us all about you." Sonic answered, calmly. How was he so calm?! Surely they think I'm an alien! I mean, I'm a human in their weird animal world!

"Sonic, she probably doesn't even know what that is." A female voice spoke. I looked around and noticed it belonged to a similar looking pink hedgehog.

"Yeah, you're right. Anyways, let me introduce you to everyone!" Sonic perked up again. I couldn't help but be slightly annoyed by his cheerfulness. He reminded me so much of Liam. Speaking of, I hope he's calling the police to look for me by now. Maybe I'm just in some sort of coma and this is all a strange dream.

"The red echidna is Knuckles. The pink hedgehog is Amy! The white bat is Rouge. The yellow fox is my buddy Tails! The rabbit is Cream and the one next to her is Cheese, and you already met Mr. Grumpy, Shadow the hedgehog." Shadow growled at this, but the bat named 'Rouge' held him back.

"Oh, c'mon Shads! It was just a joke!" Sonic nervously chuckled.

"Don't call me that, faker!" Shadow hissed back.

"He seems fun at parties." I mumbled. Sonic seemed to be the only one that caught that and let out a quiet chuckle, winking at me. I giggled in response.

"So what do you know about the chaos emeralds?" Knuckles spoke up.

"Literally nothing." I almost immediately replied. The gang just watched me in awe.

"I still don't understand why we put our faith in a human." Shadow glared at me.

"Once she learns her powers she'll be very helpful, hun." Rogue replied. This calmed Shadow down slightly. She seemed to be the only one that was able to make him relax. They must be a thing. I gave myself a smug grin at the two and Rogue only stared at me in confusion.

"We should probably explain all of this to you now." Sonic sighed. He seemed to be serious now, which by our brief exchange of meeting he never was, so I watched him curiously listening to what he had to say.

"So basically..."
