"So, Shadow...care to tell us where the hell you've been?!" Rogue scolded.

The others and I were all gathered in the living room of the shack. Shadow had thankfully chaos controlled there but still remained just as pissed as before.

I sat beside Sonic and Cream on the couch. I could practically feel Shadow's glare at Sonic even when I wasn't looking at him. Was there rivalry really this bad? I had never noticed this much tension between them, until now.

"After I kicked that puke-stained hedgehogs ass, I went on my own mission for the chaos emeralds." The group each held their own look of surprise on their faces. But I stayed blank, I wanted to have more information on his whereabouts.

"Why wouldn't you just tell us?! Why would you run away after what you did?!" Rogue's tone was slightly getting louder with each sentence. Shadow's eyes narrowed from the sudden high pitch.

"Because it's not of your business, bat." Shadow hissed. Knuckles became slightly defensive as he stood in front of Rogue.

"Don't be rude. We are just trying to understand why you left, Shadow." I could tell Knuckles was gritting his teeth. I guess his rudeness towards Rogue really pinched a nerve. Cute.

"It's none of your business, fur-ball."

"Shadz, can ya just tell us? We worry about you, ya know?"

"I don't want to speak with you, faker. You disgust me."

"Hey! What'd I do?!"

"You're a shame to hedgehog kind, faker."

"Oh, yeah? Look who's talking, emo!"

As there nonstop babbling continued, I completely tuned them out. I began to think of what happened on the beach earlier.

Were Sonic and I going to kiss? I had certainly never thought of him in that way. I just assumed it was a platonic relationship. But could Sonic possible crushing on me? How do I feel about that?

My thoughts were interrupted when I felt a nudge on my shoulder. I looked to my side and saw that Cream was tapping on it. Worried written on her face.

"Miss Y/N, are you alright?" That question seemed to snap everyone out of their arguments as they all turned their heads to face me, awaiting and answer. I gulped at the sudden attention.

"Um, y-yeah." Why am I stuttering?! "It's pretty late, I think I'm gonna go to bed..." I stood up from the couch and nodded towards everyone. They seemed rather confused but remained silent.

"Night, Y/N." Sonic smirked.

"Goodnight. See you guys tomorrow..." As a yawn escaped me, I dragged my feet up the stairs, not daring to look back at my friends. I just hoped they would all calm down soon.

I had so many question for Shadow. But I just could never catch him alone! It was strange, especially for someone like him. You would think he never wants company...

I wasn't actually tired. I just used the yawn so my excuse seemed more believable. But really, I just didn't want to be surrounded by their arguing any longer. As I finally made my way into my bedroom. I put on a t-shirt and sweatpants before climbing out the window and going on the roof.

Yes, this was something I did.

Most nights I find myself restless. It's probably due to the unfamiliar environment but going up on the roof and watching the night sky always seems to calm my body down.

But this night was different, because as I sat up on the roof I heard a faint whoosh from behind me. I turned around and immediately recognized those crimson eyes.

"What are you doing on the roof?" Shadow inquired. His tone wasn't harsh like previously, more calm and curious.

"I like to look at the stars and think. I was actually looking for you, anyway." As Shadow looked me up and down, he slowly walked over to me and sat beside me. The two of us both staring at the sky.

"Why?" Shadow asked rather abruptly.

"Why, what?" I turned to face him.

"Why would you look for me?" I could tell Shadow was hurt, on the inside. He looked down at his own body and sighed. Hesitantly, I placed my hand on top of his which immediately got his attention.

"Because, whether you believe it or not, we are friends, and it's my job to worry about you." I couldn't believe the words spilling out of my mouth. My thoughts were often clouded with my pure hatred for Shadow and now I was saying this? I didn't know who was more surprised, Shadow or me.

"Thank you." Shadow mumbled, barely audible for me to hear.

"No need to thank me. I'm here when you need it, Shadow." Shadow simply nodded and turned to face the night sky. I hadn't paid attention to my hands whereabouts until now, until I felt a squeeze. I quickly glanced down and saw Shadow's fingers intertwined with mine, holding it with a firm, but gentle grip.

Smiling, I laid down on the rooftop and briefly shut my eyes to breath in the fresh air. Shadow soon joined me as he now laid beside me, our hands still together.

"I didn't know you liked stargazing." Shadow muttered. I opened my eyes but didn't turn to look at him.

"Yeah, I find them very beautiful. It's hard not to look at it." I chuckled. Shadow turned his head towards me as he stared into my e/c orbs.

"Yeah..." Shadow hummed, as calm as I've ever heard. His new soft voice was warm and it made my heart flutter. I didn't even know he could have that affect of me. Perhaps, I misread him...

"I like to think Maria is sitting with us, watching them too." I expected Shadow to seem sad, but to my surprise he held a grin as his voice was determined and hopeful.

"I bet she is, Shadow."

With that, Shadow gave my hand another squeeze as he looked back towards the moon.

"So, did you want answers to your questions?" He sighed, breaking the comforting silence.

"They can wait. Let's just enjoy this moment." Shadow seemed to agree with this statement as he inched slightly closer towards me. I gave him a reassuring smile letting him know it was okay.

"I wish we had more moments like this, Y/N."
