Cassian's pov:
Maple Wood High is the high school I chose to go to and my parents aren't thrilled, to say the least.
"You can't go. They have dorm rooms! You won't get to see us until winter break, spring break, and summer. That's not enough." Cassian's Mom says with a worried face.
"And they have uniforms." Continued Cassian's dad, "You HATE uniforms. It's not too late to change schools you know.
"Mom. Dad." I look between the two of them "I wanna start fresh, I wanna meet new people. And it won't be that bad. The skirts aren't that short." I grin before mumbling under my breath "Hopefully" And I may have lied about wanting to start a fresh start. I just need a break from their expectations. They always put too much unnecessary pressure on me. And for what? I know what I'm doing, it's not like I'm completely lost. Sure I fucked up a few times, but I always bounced back. And I always will...I'll make sure of that.
My dad sighed, slowly giving in. "If this is what is best for her and what she wants we should let her. She is 15...and if she ever needs us she will call us. Or better yet call us every night. Right, Cassian?"
"Yes, Dad." I roll my eyes. I don't understand why I need to call them every night. Sure school kills you mentally but not physically. Unless there is a school shooting—ugh, I really shouldn't jinx myself.
My dad shoots me a look for the eye roll but stomps off to go finish packing the car. My Mom steps in, pulling me into a tight hug. "I love you Cassian." She sniffles, holding back tears.
"I know, I know." I squeeze back quickly, then attempt to step back. " I gotta get going, I don't wanna be late on my FIRST day of high school."
"Alright Dear." My mom lets go of me. "Please call me when you get there."
"Orrrrrr after school finishes," I smirk.
My Mom sighs. I take that as a yes. I race up to my bedroom. Hoping I didn't forget anything I take one more long look around before smiling and heading back downstairs. I say one last bye to my Mom and hop into the car.
My dad nods at me turning the radio on. He was playing some old country song. Not exactly my vibe, but whatever. I sleep through the whole ride anyway.
When we arrived it was packed. I mean PACKED. Kids everywhere. The stench was horrendous. I forgot how bad some teenagers can get. It was like I walked into a gym class that just had a hardcore workout. Disgusting.
My dad handed me one bag, while he took three. Apparently, to him, I'm too weak to take anymore. Bullshit. We make our way to the front of the school. And damn is it ever big. And the dorms aren't even attached to the school.
We look around and land our eyes on some dude handing out dorm keys. He looks young. Like maybe in his 20's. Must suck working at a school this young.
We head on over, and my dad wastes no time in starting small talk. "How's your day going?" "Nice weather, huh." All that boring stuff. And of course, he had to ask, "Is my daughter safe here?" How is he THAT worried about me? I haven't even been here for an hour. The man glares at my dad and I grab the dorm key, reading out loud "Room 213"
"Alright let's head there now, so I can hopefully meet your roommates," Dad said with a stern expression on his face.
"Daddddddd." I whine stretching out the word, like I always used to do when I was younger. He gave me a look, making me well aware I won't win this. It reminds me of the time I tried to bring home a stray cat when I was ten. Didn't end well.
He starts to march to my room, puffing out his chest. Great.
