lost puppy

You talk to me after days of absence with no explanation,
And I fall right back into your lap like a lost puppy waiting for salvation.

You always knew the right words to say so I would stay,
Waiting while you came and left as you pleased leaving me astray.

And when I cried out how much I hated your twisted game,
You quickly aided with your coos, "you're the only one for me, I want you to have my last name."

Once again I stayed, like a dog being taught tricks with no reward,
Thinking it'd be the same when you left without warning because you were bored.

I waited and waited like an abandoned puppy dumped on the side of the road wondering if you'd return.
