What's the first thing you see when buying or choosing out a book? Its the cover. To make a successful book, the cover must be eye-catching and appealing to the viewer. To make a book cover, I sometimes use photo editing apps to create the cover. If there's a website for it, use it. A hand-made drawing? Sorry, but no. If you want to keep things professional looking, then use either a pre-made image off the web (and give credit for it) or draw on a device and use that instead of pencil and paper.

IF you are using a photo editing app or website, make sure the picture fits the size of cover provided. It looks disorganized-looking and annoying if the title isn't shown completely on the cover. Also, edit out any search bar or extra space if using a cover from the Internet. Unfortunately, I saw a cover with the search bar included. I know for a FACT you can easily crop the photo using numerous methods.

IF you're going to draw a cover on an electronic device, make sure the title can be seen clearly. Edit out any blank space to fit the cover provided. And, I hate to say it, but the drawing must be AMAZING for it to be featured on the cover. I'm not criticizing anyone's drawing skills, but it's not too professional looking if the cover is drawn poorly.

Include either your pen name/username. If you WANT to use your real name, go ahead. When you put your name on the cover, I frown upon using "by...". If you put your name small enough, then people will know that's the author.
