Now here is where we get to the good stuff. When you first get a story idea, your first thought may be to immediately sit down and write a novel. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. Sure, you can jot down some ideas, but not start writing the actual book UNTIL you've completed the following steps.
Step One- The Idea
Congrats! You've came up with an idea! But first, decide if it'll be a short story or a full-blown novel. Sometimes, your choice may change. But to make sure that this certain subject is for sure what you want to write about, don't think about it for a few days. See if you still think the idea is worth writing about.
Step Two- Characters
Come up with characters and their back stories, and provide detailed descriptions of their physical appearance and personality. If it helps you, draw your characters.
Step Three- Plan Out Your Plot
To further develop your story, come up with a timeline of events that happen throughout your story and provide detailed descriptions of what happened.
Step Four- Fates
Decide what happens to your characters either during or at the end of the story... Remember, it's all up to you!
Step Five- Start Writing
Start writing your story. It may be hard to first start out your story, so another chapter will be dedicated to that. But remember, if your story becomes boring while writing it, either add a plot twist or scrap the story.
Following those steps SHOULD help you get organized for writing.
