Maki never thought she would find something–or someone–remotely interesting here. She didn't want to move here at all, but it's not like she had a choice in the matter. She didn't know why Gojo had decided to move them here. They moved from their somewhat city-like area to a new place entirely suburban. The new scenery brought about some unwelcome changes that Maki wasn't welcoming toward.

It's not like she wasn't used to change. One might even say she was accustomed to things not staying the same. Just 3 years ago she was adopted by Satoru Gojo who was certainly unqualified to take care of 1 child let alone 2. She was 14 at the time, and had been set on the belief she'd spend the next four years of her life in that shitty ass foster home.

So it was the last thing she expected when it appeared someone had wanted her. They must have read her file, right? This couldn't be as appealing as it seemed...to finally leave this place she wouldn't allow herself to be too happy about it at the time. After all, this 'Gojo' fellow could be worse for all she knew.

She still doesn't know the reason why Gojo even adopted her or Megumi and he probably isn't someone who should have even been approved. The home was more than happy to give her up because it was unlikely anyone else would want her anyway. Being the "problem child" that she was.

When she was 9, her twin sister Mai had gotten adopted by some cookie-cutter privileged family. They were looking for a girl, some prim and proper thing, and Mai was more than happy to play the part.

Developing a rather confident and prideful sense of self at an early age, Maki's nature however wouldn't allow her to harm her pride for the sake of an easy way out. Despite how young she was, she wasn't about to be someone she wasn't.

So although she hated the fact that Mai left her, and was bitter that she got to leave, she could understand it wasn't entirely her fault and she was only doing what she could to better her situation. Maki almost wished she could have done the same.

For all of the shit she likes to throw at him, Satoru Gojo isn't too bad anyway. He's an...eccentric wealthy man who probably adopted two kids for the hell of it with no reasoning behind it. Though she can't imagine there wasn't any motive behind it. She just can't imagine what the reason would be since Gojo was such an enigma. She can't really figure any sort of reason as to why Gojo does anything that he does. He doesn't even seem like the type to even want children. Actually, "seem like" is an understatement. He definitely isn't.

Initially, Maki assumed that he adopted her and Megumi for some sort of easy money. The government does give money to people who house orphaned children, but then she realized Gojo already has money, a lot of it too, so there didn't seem to be any reason why he'd need to do that.

Whenever she tried to ask, Gojo would never give a straightforward answer, as if preferring to make everyone's life harder by only giving half-truths. If that at all. It was truly infuriating and one of the many things that made her 'foster parent' insufferable.

Though she never even liked to refer to him as 'foster parent' or 'father', considering he wasn't old enough to be her father anyway. (Not that she knew how old her biological father was) Gojo was probably around 25? Late twenties? She guessed, considering he looked pretty young. But also wouldn't even give her a straight answer on his age either. He could be 30 for all she knew.

It felt almost unfair since she's sure he knows a lot more about her. She prefers calling him by his last name instead, she calls him her guardian to teachers, and she's content with the knowledge that he's actually less of a parental figure and more of a roommate. A slightly immature one. Scratch that. Really immature. At least on the surface anyway.
