"What happened?"

Gojo leans over Megumi's shoulder after hearing the front door close. Hurried footsteps rushed out the door abruptly, Gojo didn't even see Maki's friend leave before she was already gone. Megumi turns his body away to shield his phone from prying eyes. His guardian was perhaps the noisiest person in existence.

"I don't know, but whatever it is, I bet it was your fault," He answers, coldly, not knowing exactly what just transpired any more than Gojo did. Though he could surely guess.

What Gojo said earlier to Maki and Nobara was intrusive and kind of inappropriate. He's never bringing Yuuji over. Megumi knew Gojo meant to be meddling in a helpful way, but pointing out the obvious likely did more harm than good in this case.

Megumi half expected Maki to come out of her room for dinner at least, but she doesn't come downstairs for the rest of the night. He almost makes a move to knock on her door but thinks better of it when he gets there. He decided it was probably best to just leave her alone for now.

She likely wouldn't want to talk to him anyway, after all, what the fuck did he know. Everything he thinks he knows about this situation was from speculation. Even if he did manage to get her attention, she probably wouldn't even want to talk to him. So the best thing he could realistically do was give her space.

When Gojo asks him what he thinks is wrong, he tells him nothing. Megumi knows giving Gojo his thoughts was pointless since it's likely he already knew what was wrong, and either wanted Megumi to validate it for him or give him new information. He wasn't going to assist in his meddling, good-intended as it may be.

Still, he wonders how true Gojo's interpretation was, or if he was inserting a narrative for the sake of creating drama. As soon as he thinks that could be it, he dismisses it. He didn't think so, since there wouldn't be any amusement in it for him making something up. He likely just didn't think anything he said would have any real adverse effects.

Because of fucking course someone like him doesn't think about the consequences of his actions. Just like how randomly taking in a teenage girl with anger issues was of course going to lead to some instability. As Megumi got older he really saw how young Gojo was. Yes, he was an adult, but really the only reason he was able to care for him, Maki, and Tsumiki and her medical bills was because he had money. Not necessarily because he was the best person for the job.

Megumi was grateful of course, and he knew Gojo actually cared for them, but he was also frustrated because it led to situations like this. Maki was now in her room likely hurt, they had no way of knowing what actually happened or even how to help and didn't know anyone that could help since the closest person Maki has just ran through the door.

Megumi was the type of person who thought about his actions nearly obsessively. He thought about his own life almost clinically in the way he thinks about his childhood and how that shaped him now. He knew what that was called, and why people would consider that not good. But he was so far distanced from feeling his own emotions on the subject that it didn't even really matter to him anymore. He just cared about his family and that's it, and maybe...one other person too.
