Maki has never been described as having a 'passive' nature. If she could read the notes caretakers would write about her behavior she'd see adjectives describing the exact opposite of passive. Mentions of how she was hot-heated, how she'd pick fights and always take things overboard. When interacting with the other children, she was terrible, and she'd talk back whenever she didn't like something.

Meanwhile, Mai was such a kind, compassionate, and such a thoughtful girl. They'd wonder how the two were even related, much less twins with how Maki was just so different from Mai. Maki always said Mai was a good manipulator, but she herself was much too involved in getting her true intentions across that she couldn't be that way. She couldn't pretend to be something she wasn't for the sake of a better image and she resented those who wanted her to change.

Would you rather want a blunt person to tell you the truth or a pretty person to tell you lies?

They were more than happy to get rid of her when some wealthy benefactor showed up to take her. This man came out of nowhere, and although there were odd circumstances, no one hesitated to give her away. She would finally be out of their sight. She was glad to be gone too, If this turned out to be a bust, then she'd just run away. It would be easier than trying to run away from the orphanage.

On the first day, she did try to run away determined not to stay. Satoru Gojo was weird. She didn't like him, or his really nice house. She certainly didn't want to get to know that weird kid with the wild black hair and arrogant stance. She decided she'd be perfectly fine on her own.

So she never unpacked, and waited for the perfect time. At night she heard heavy footsteps, what could only be the sound of an adult, the only adult in the house. It was late, almost midnight. She didn't care where the man went, she only knew that now he was gone it would be her best bet to leave now. She takes nothing else but her bag she came with, not really thinking about anything else but leaving.

"Where are you going?"

She freezes when she heard a voice behind her, she was going to leave through the front door in the middle of the night. She thought Gojo had left, she didn't think there'd be anyone else to stop her. Speaking of...that voice, it isn't Gojo's cheery voice, it's a low voice. A boy.

She turns, and it's the other kid. The one who didn't speak a word to her when she got here. Though, Gojo was talking way too much so even if the kid wanted to talk –though he looked like he didn't– he probably couldn't have gotten a word in. But now the other kid wants to stop her? It was laughable. What was he going to do?

"I don't know, don't care." She answers.

"What are you stupid? Where the hell are you going to go?" Why did this kid seem angry at her? He doesn't even know her.

"I'll figure it out!" She yells at him. Megumi's a year younger, but he's lived with this guy for how long? He already acclimated here, she already knows she won't fit in here, it's too nice, and even Gojo's a bit too nice, though slightly annoying. She'll fuck it up, might as well leave now before–

"Do you even hear yourself? What are you like 14? You can't get a job, and the police will catch you and then it'll be your fault when Gojo gets arrested."

Megumi, she remembers his name now. Gojo introduced them, but she was so out of it everything he said was a passing thought. She just didn't think this would happen. She didn't think she'd get adopted at all.
