 POV: Erica

Erica was loyal to a fault and had been with Derek from the beginning when he first took over the company. When she had gotten to the city, she had big dreams but after an injury, she found out very quickly just how cruel people could be. She was just at a coffee shop searching for work on her laptop when she saw Derek for the first time. He was gorgeous. Anyone with eyes could see that but he wasn't her type. When he saw her watching him, he walked over. That afternoon, they spent lots of time just talking and Erica had never felt a connection with someone so quickly.

Now, here they were five years later still just as connected today as they were then, and their relationship had deepened. Erica considered Derek her closest and dearest friend. That was why seeing him so distraught broke her heart and she had no idea how to help him. Especially since he refused to tell her what was going on.

He withdrew into his carefully crafted shell and threw himself into his work, determined to shut everyone and everything out. It had been years since he had worn his thick armor. Derek was good at shutting people out, but this was the first time he had truly shut her out. She watched him from a distance, a distance that he caused to grow between them. Erica could see that he wasn't eating or sleeping normally. It wasn't healthy and Erica kept a protective eye on him, but she didn't push Derek to talk to her.

She waited for him to come to her. She knew that he would eventually do so, and she just had to be patient with him. She did not however expect to see him in his fully shifted wolf form with the omega curled into his side. That she definitely did not expect.

As she learned more about the situation, she knew something wasn't adding up. Derek was even more distressed after the omega's departure, and she could practically feel him resisting the urge to go to the omega. It wasn't until she told Derek that the omega asked for the alpha in the rain that she saw a flicker of something in Derek's face. That was when she found out that Derek was one of the alphas that had matched with the omega. Once again, she didn't push but it didn't sit well with her that Derek was hiding things from her. She only wanted to help, and he was making that impossible.

The day the omega returned and revealed that he had a soul bond, Erica was floored. She hated Alpha Ryan with a passion, and she knew Derek did too but despite the injuries the omega sustained if he was bonded to Alpha Ryan there was very little they could do.

So, Erica told the omega to sit tight while she went to Derek and was ready to relay the information. However, before she could even utter a single word, Derek informed her that he had already heard everything. It was as though the revelation was right on the tip of his tongue, but he said nothing and that was the last straw. Erica had been patiently waiting for Derek to do something about it of his own accord, but he wasn't and that simply wouldn't do. So, she ordered the alpha to go talk to the omega. Honestly, Erica expected him to fight her on it, but was shocked and surprised that he actually listened to her. She had no idea what to make of that.

She watched the two of them begin to talk. Well, at least Derek did but the omega was quiet except to repeat the question he had asked Erica, this time addressing Derek. In a matter of minutes, Derek went from nervous to downright anxiety ridden as the omega approached him.

Erica watched Derek tense upon the other man's approach but when the omega climbed into Derek's lap, it was as if a switch was flipped. She watched him stop fighting and give in.

Derek had used the omega's name and the omega had called Derek, Alpha.

It made her jaw drop open, in awe of the connection they had, and she stepped out of the way as Derek carried the omega to his office. For a few minutes, Erica just stood in the doorway of her office completely speechless. She didn't bother fighting the pleased smile that formed on her face.

That pleased smile lasted for all of two minutes. It only slipped off her face when she heard a loud roar, a furious snarl and a raised voice. She flashed her eyes and clenched her fists as she said to herself, 'OH HELL TO THE FUCKING NO!!"
