A/N Ok, so this chapter might be a bit touchy for some. It mentions cutting and so if you are triggered easily, here's a warning. The begining of the chapter isn't bad, so I will put a star by where the suggestive stuff begins. So when you see this, ***** that's your warning. Thanks and sorry in advance.
After my father left my mom stayed for a bit. She helped clean up my bruised face and insisted that Dean go to the hospital.
"You could have a concussion, dear." She argued with the stubborn teen. He just shrugged it off like it was nothing.
Gabriel was furious when he came home, going off about how our father has no right to barge in here and behave like this. He contemplated calling the cops.
We all sat in the living room, some of us holding ice to our wounds. "What are you going to do, mom?" Gabriel asked after a moment.
She gave him a faint smile and contemplated what to do next. "I can't continue to live with him. I'm going to pick up Anna and visit my mom for a bit until we sort everything out."
I knew that my mother wasn't happy with the fact that I was gay, but deep down I knew that she would always still love me. She placed a kiss on my head and said her farewells before leaving.
"I'm exhausted. It was a long day at work. I'm going to bed kiddos." Gabriel said as he popped a cherry sucker into his mouth.
Dean and I were alone again. He didn't say anything for a while, he just sat there and glared off in space. "I should've protected you." He finally said.
I shook my head. "Dean, you were knocked out. There was nothing you could do." He stood up, refusing to listen to me.
"It was my job to protect you Cas, and I failed," I saw a new emotion play on Dean's face, one I had never seen before.
He was scared, of what I don't know. I just knew he was horrified. I grabbed his hand. "Dean, I'm fine. There was nothing you could have done. I love you." I kissed him softly but he was rather unresponsive.
"I've got to go home." He said. "Sam will be wondering where I am." He swiftly gathered his things, not looking me in the eyes.
I grabbed his arm again. "Why are you in such a hurry? Is everything ok?" He wouldn't look me in the eyes.
"Sit." I told him, still no eye contact. He relaxed a tad, sitting beside me on the couch. "What is the matter?"
"I'm just tired." He mumbled. I wasn't buying it.
I came a little closer to him. "Dean, I know that something is wrong. You aren't just tired. I don't care what the problem is, but I do care about you and I want to help you. Now tell me what's wrong."
********
He sighed but finally looked me in the eyes. Slowly he rolled up his sleeves and I noticed the thing I dreaded the most.
Lining the wrists of my green eyed, freckle faced boy were rows of little white scars. Some were fresh, just starting to heal. Others had been there a while, showing how hard the years had really been on him.
I saw another thing tonight that I had never seen before. Dean WInchester cried. It started with a single tear, but was quickly followed by others.
I didn't know what to say, how to comfort him. All I knew was that I loved him and I couldn't let him do this to himself anymore.
"Dean, look at me." I said. He was stubborn, not obeying, I placed my hand on his chin, drawing his face up towards mine.
"This isn't ok. I don't think you understand. You are more than that which others have reduced you to. You are more than a broken family and a wrecked home. You are more than all the mistakes you've made. You are special Dean Winchester. Even when you don't think you are, you are special to me."
I gently grabbed his wrist and began to kiss them. I sprinkled kisses on every scar, making sure to cover every inch of his tattered wrist. I couldn't fix that which had already been hurt, but I could show him that there is a way out.
"Cas, I love you." He said with tears in his eyes.
I smiled. "I love you too."
