After drinking her shot, Zoe grinned and gladly put her hand in Onyx's. Gently waking her over to the dance floor, both of them sank in a deep red and blue atmosphere. The flashing lights soon changed colors, as a new song played, embracing the room in ice blue and white, supported by midnight blue lasers. Maybe she could let herself go for one night, just dancing and having fun. Zoe was cute, so how could it be wrong?
A smile formed on Zoe's lips as we started dancing, like the crowd around us, we swam in a deep blue ocean. Not thinking, just dancing and inhaling the sweet breath of midnight nostalgia and alcohol.
"I love that song." She beamed, causing Onyx to share the smile. "Dark Beach by pastel ghost? Not bad, it suits you."The lights got darker and the people filled the room, causing them to dance closer, as the song intensified. Lost in the music, Zoe felt every wave, her body moving within it, as if she had done this a million times. Onyx caught herself lost at the sight of her for a second, before adjusting to the smaller girl. Her hands held Zoe's lower back gently, as her arms wrapped around Onyx's neck.
Moving in rhythm the world seemed to stop and the people around them to vanish. The song reached its highest point, creating a warm feeling in Onyx's stomach. Zoe's head slowly came closer, due to people pushing here and there, taking their space. Their gazes landed on each other's lips, as their was only little space between them. Nearly leaning into it, Onyx looked up for a second, immediately caught in a glimpse of sunlight.
The time seemed to slow down, as the people's shoulders created a space between them for a brief second. sky blue hair hovered in the air, vanishing in the crowd, leaving Onyx with a sharp pain in her heart. Did I? Did I just imagine her? Here? Have I lost my mind?
The time proceeded in its normal speed, her gaze still focused on where she saw sparks. She felt sparks, it's just hair, it could be anyone, but that shade? She mesmerized Powder so often when they were younger, a admiration that would never wither. Just was this real?
"Hey, are you okay? You seem pale- uh paler than before?" Zoe looked up to her with concern in her eyes. Forcing her gaze away from the now cold spot, she met Zoe's eyes again. "Yea, sorry. I just thought I saw someone I know-" her voice was unsure and the knot in her throat tightened, making her breathless. She had to look, what if I'm not as fucked up as I think I am? What if she is here?
The song ended, the crowd decreasing, giving back the space Onyx needed right now. Zoe's hands left Onyx's neck as she took a step back, giving her some space. "Wanna get a drink?" Onyx quickly changed topic, forcing a slight smile. "Thought you'd never ask, it's on you this time tho...I'm broke." She laughed, leading Onyx to the bar stools from earlier.
After receiving their drinks, they chatted. More like Zoe talked and Onyx looked around in the room, hoping to find what she once had lost. "You know, you can go look. Seems like it's important." Zoe leaned forward, a genuine smile on her lips. Onyx tensed at her gentleness, feeling guilty for wanting to leave.
"Uh...no- it's okay-" she started, only to be interrupted by Zoe. "Go and look, you might never find that someone again. But pretty strangers like us? We always cross ways twice."
Onyx nodded slowly, before both drank their glasses empty. Onyx told Zoe where to find her and then left, leaving a tip for the bartender.
The music got quieter in the background, as Onyx left the last drop, walking- no running after one of her mind tricks, perhaps. Taking a turn to the right, the to the left, she faced a filled night market. "Fuck." She swore at the mass of people. "Why the fuck do they have to shop at night??" Pushing peoples shoulder's to the side, she rushed to god knows where. The smell of nasty food filled her nose, making it scrunch in distaste. Yikes.
Almost running people over, she stopped in her tracks, seeing a fresh painting on an old building wall. It looked like a...monkey? The color choices, the way she could tell the painter was in a hurry, the way the artist drew the monkey. It was strangely familiar. Ripping her backpack open, she quickly searched for something, that didn't belong to her.
She returned to the basement she once called home, a few years ago, finding nothing but...this. Her fingers held Pow's old monkey 'bomb' carefully, as she held it in front of her face, comparing it to the painting. A harsh gasp left her throat, her heart skipping a beat or two. She is alive.
Taking out her diary she sketched the monkey, before climbing up the building. Reaching the rooftop, old wooden planks creaked beneath her feet. She looked around only to find...nothing.
Suddenly voices whispered harshly beneath the building. Hurrying to the corner, she bent over the edge to look at the source of sound. Her eyes recognized the tall woman with broad shoulders. Sevika.
She walked through a valley together with 3 of Silco's men, not facing them. Her voice was stern, sounding pissed off as always. The 3 guys kept apologizing and explaining something about a mission, until her head snipped around, punching them to their knees. "You failed! You failed me and you failed Silco! Jinx is gone and blew up another building near Piltover. 5 Enforcers. Dead. You were supposed to keep her distracted during we get rid of the 'Midnight' Problem!"
The guy in the middle took the most blame and whimpered at her raising tone. "We will find her in time, I promise!" He pleaded. Damn, I knew Sevika had much more power now as Silco's 'right hand' but this much? Geez.
"You better be...or you're dead. All of you. For your sake, Jinx better haven't been seen." Her voice growled in anger, as she turned to leave in the night, the 3 guys hurrying to find jinx? Jinx...I have heard that name before. Whoever Jinx is, they're not quite the Enforcers favorite. Pfft- same.
After waiting there for some minutes, Onyx decided to head back to her hideout. Entering, she found company in her kitchen.
"Hey looser." She said yawning, before smelling delicious food. "Yo midnight." Finn turned, mocking her with the stupid name. "Fuck you." She huffed smiling, dropping her backpack on the ground somewhere, before plopping on a stair. Finn served your food and sat down on the opposite of the table, starting to compliment himself for his food. "You look shittier than usual, something happened?"he inquired curiously.
Onyx sighed, eating a mouthful of noodles. "Jwust dwe ushwual-" "what?" He laughed. Swallowing the noddles she cleared her throat. "Just the usual. Apparently, Silco's and Sevika's men want to see me dead, I'm running out of fixed shimmer, I nearly took a random girl home- oh and my Powder seems to alive, somewhere, without me."She replaced her sarcasm with frustration at the last part, and stabbed her noodles on the plate multiple times, 'accidentally' staining Finn's face with red sauce.
"Hey! Geez, you know how much love I put into those noodl- you nearly what?" He stopped, eyeing me with a deadpan. "Yea- but that's not the point! The point is- Fuck!" Slamming her fist in the table, she furrowed her eyebrows, feeling her heart ache.
A hand wrapped around hers, gently, making her release her fist and put the spoon down. "She's alive right? Now you just have to find her." He tried to soothe his short tempered friend.
"That's just it. I have been looking for her the past 5 nearly 6 years. With no luck. How?? She was out there this whole fucking time! She had to suffer without me- without anyone and it's my fucking fault! I got taken back then, they came to get me and Vander, cause I wasn't strong enough to beat their asses! And now they're dead. And she is somewhere with strangers. Alone. It is my fault. I wasn't strong enough back then and I'm not strong enough now."
With that onyx stood up bringing her empty plate in the kitchen, mumbling a quiet "sorry" yo Finn and then vanished in her room, closing her door harder than she meant to. Her hand not leaving the Valdiani she wanted to give Powder back then, as she lay in bed, her hot tears finally released, leaving salty stains on her pillow.
