...where am I?
"Happy birthday sweetie!"
Mommy?but...
"Look at our big girl! Happy birthday honey!"
Daddy? What's happening?

"Make a wish sweetie! But don't tell us what you wish, or else it won't come true!" I can't see its so bright... I can't see their faces but the voices...it's them. My parents.

Sitting at a dirty table, decorated with a lovely birthday cake which had 4 candles, I looked around around. Looking down I saw my very short legs and tiny hands.

I had a hat on, saying 'birthday kid' and glitter and confetti was all over me. Two silhouettes, one taller, sat on the right side, clapping hands and laughing.

The smaller silhouette sat on my left, placing a plate with a piece of rainbow cake in front of me, kissing my cheek.

Why does my heart hurt so much?

I tried to move, but I couldn't move an inch. There's nothing I wanted more  than to tug them both in a hug. My body felt nailed to my chair, everything happened like a movie.

The door was wide open, a bright white light filled the room. For some reason I couldn't see their faces, which made it all worse. I miss you so much.

A single tear rolled down my cheek. This scene leaves a bitter sweet taste on my tongue. I don't remember my parents well, but my birthdays were always special. We could do anything I want and pretend like everything was okay. I didn't realize it back then, but my parents weren't always lovingly. My mom had a short temper, when I made a mistake she's scream at me, making me swallow my words and teaching me to think, instead of talking. My dad always wore a uniform but I can't remember what jobs they had. People always looked weird at us and when other men in uniforms came, they always took dad. He came back, but  bruised. Funny, children can be so blind.

Suddenly they both started talking at the same time, their voices echoing in the room.
Mommy...?daddy..?
The lights turned red, making my heart beat faster. Their voices now were pitched and scary. I just wanted to cry scream and run away, but no matter how hard I tried I couldn't move. Something was dripping from the table. Smells like....iron.

Blood. It was everywhere now. Both figures slowly turned into a pool of blood. That's when smoke filled the air. Tears streamed down my face.

Please. Stop. I can't so this anymore!

This is not real. It's not real. Wake up.
I covered my ears and kept my eyes shut, I tried to scream but not one tone seemed to leave my body.

Suddenly all the voices stopped, light faded and my body stopped shaking.

Is it over? I put my hands down, slowing blinking my eyes open.

The first thing I noticed was that my eyes were blurry. Everything had a red and orange shade. I couldn't hear anything. The only thing that scared me now was the smell. I still could smell smoke.

I stood up and walked a few steps until my small foot touched something in the way.

I got on my knees and slowly put my hands on it, trying to figure out what is was.

Cold...no- warm. The fabric is cold but some liquid stuff and warm and smells familiar.

My fingers traced along the thing, until my eyes got better again.

What-? No!
My hands shaking, my heartbeat ringing in my ears I looked down at my dead mother, laying in her very own bloodbath. Her poor fabric torn to pieces, stained in a scarlet red. Her black slender eyes, that mirrored mine, stared the dusty night sky. I wish I could pretend like the bullet wouldn't stick out of her forehead, leaving nothing behind but a deadly hole.
