"Ugh," You groan to yourself, leaning back in your chair.

This day is dragging on. You've been at work, sitting at your desk for four hours with five more to go.

"I can't wait to get out of here," You whisper, mindlessly playing with a pen.

You only have a couple more months here at this hellhole of a job before you graduate and get to do what you actually want to do, not sitting behind a desk like feeling like a lump. You jump when your phone starts to ring.

Unknown number

You glance at the clock and see only two minutes have passed. You huff.

"Hello?" You say, rolling your eyes.

"Hello, is this Miss Y/N?" A man asks.

"Yes, this is she," You say, your eyebrows knitting together in confusion.

"We have Mr. Adam Driver here at St. Mark's Hospital and you were listed as his emergency contact--" The man continues but you cut him off.

"Adam? Wait what?" You say.

"Yes, do you know him?" He asks.

"Uh yeah he's my ex-boyfriend, may I ask why he's at the hospital?" Your heart starting to pound in your chest.

"He was in an accident and you were listed as his main emergency contact. Will you be coming?" The man says.

You're speechless. Terrified about what kind of accident he's been in and what his condition is but also confused as you completely forgot that you made each other your emergency contacts so you hadn't changed it after you broke up.

"Ma'am?" He says, bringing you back to reality.

"Y--Yeah I'll be there, thank you," You say and hang up.

You throw your stuff in your bag, tears burning your eyes. You run to your bosses office and explain as quick as you can then practically sprint to your car. Tears are now streaming down your face as you tear out of the parking garage and towards the hospital.

"God, Adam you better be okay," You say, gripping the steering wheel.

You never imagined this is what get you out of work. You honestly wish it were anything else. You and Adam had broken up almost 2 years ago and you hadn't spoken to him since. It was sort of a messy break up and you made yourself swear that you'd never see him let alone think of him ever again. You were heartbroken and it took you a long time to get over it, but you do think about him every now and then. Now you're driving way over the speed limit and weaving through cars to see him, praying that he's alive. Getting to the hospital and finding out where he was, was a complete blur and felt like you were in a dream. When you come out of it, you're standing in front of his door with your hand clutching your chest. You open the door and see him asleep in bed. He has broken both his legs and arm, as well as plenty of cuts up and down his body. His head is wrapped with gauze and one of his eyes is swollen and black.

"Adam," You whisper, horrified at the state he is in.

He opens his eyes, confusion lacing his face.

"Y/N," He says, voice hoarse.

"What happened?" You ask, your voice cracking.

"I was driving. Then I woke up here a couple of hours ago," He says.

"Oh god," You say, quickly making your way to him and hugging him softly.

You kiss the side of his head, tears falling down your face.

"What are you doing here?" He asks.

"I got a call from the hospital at work. We're still each other's emergency contacts," You say.

He looks surprised.

"I completely forgot we did that," He says.

"Me too," You chuckle lightly, wiping your eyes.

There's a silence that is hanging in the air. This is the first time you've seen each other in two years and you're both completely overwhelmed. No matter how messy your breakup was, you still love this man with all your heart, and he feels the same for you. Your emotions over take you and you start sobbing.

"Wh--What's wrong?" Adam says, taken off guard.

"I--I really thought you were going to d--die. That was so--so scary," You whimper.

"But I'm not dead," He says, trying to lighten the mood.

"I k--know, but I haven't heard from you in two years and t--then all of the sudden I get a call that you've been in an accident. I w--was terrified," You say. f

"I'm so sorry. If I knew I would have told them not to call you," He says.

You look at him through your teary eyes.

"Why?" You whisper.

"I just thought that after how we ended..." He says.

"Adam, I still love you. I wouldn't have cared if we ended in complete and utter fire, and you moved to a different country, I would have wanted to be here," You say.

This silences him. He searches your face and watches the tears roll down your cheeks. He gently takes your hand.

"I love you too," He smiles gently.

You squeeze his hand and kiss the back of it, feeling relieved. The next several months you stay with Adam to help him around the house and rehabilitate from his injuries. The two of you repaired your relationship and again just like before, you found yourself not being able to be without him. He supports you through the rest of your degree, is there at your graduation, and celebrates with you when you land your first job. You are there to celebrate his victories in his recoveries as well. When he was able to walk for the first time by himself, you cried. When he finished his physical therapy for his hand, you made a celebratory dinner. Every step of each other's lives, you were there for each other. You feel those feelings you felt when you first met him, bubbling up and starting to overflow, but you're so happy with how your relationship has gone this far, you're terrified to change anything. You're both curled up on the couch watching a movie, and you decide to say something.

"Adam?" You ask quietly.

"Hm?" He hums in return.

"Can I tell you something?" You say, your heart beginning to race.

"Anything," He says.

You sit up and swallow thickly, twiddling your fingers.

"I have had the best time these past months fixing our relationship and just spending life together. I really can't imagine my life without you anymore. I never thought something so traumatic would bring us back together but in a way I'm glad it did. I've missed you, more than I'd like to admit. I love you, Adam. Like really love you, in a way more than just a friend," You say, looking down at your lap.

He's completely silent and your heart drops.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said anything, that was stupid, I'll just go to bed, I'm--" You mumble, standing up and starting to walk away but Adam grabs your wrist.

He pulls you onto his lap and strokes your cheek.

"I love you too. More than just a friend," He smiles.

He kisses you softly, and your heart lights up and fireworks explode behind your eyes as you close them. You melt into his warm body as his hands go to your hips, pulling you further into him. You missed him more than you thought, and you hoped this moment would never end.
