You get out of your car, stretching your legs, releasing the tightness in your body from sitting in the car for hours on end. You're moving across the country from Washington and you need to stop to get some food and sleep so you found this bar for a drink and something to eat. The fluorescent light coming from the bar sign lights up the night.
"Duck Tape?" You chuckle to yourself, shaking your head.
You head inside and have a seat at the bar.
"What can I get 'cha?" The bartender asks you.
Your eyes are trained on the bar you're leaning on.
"Just a beer." You say.
He pops the cap off of a bottle and slides it to you, and you look up to catch it. You catch the bartenders gaze, making your heart stutter and and your stomach explodes with butterflies. The man's hair is long and raven colored, perfectly framing his chiseled and handsome face. His facial hair is well groomed, framing his lips that are full and pink. His nose fits his face perfectly and his hazel eyes are scanning your face as well.
"Somethin' wrong darlin'?" He asks with a barely noticeable smirk on his lips.
You shake your head no, tearing your eyes from his and taking a swig from your drink. Your eyes have now fallen from his face to the prosthetic arm from just below his elbow, down. He notices and clears his throat.
"Lost it comin' home from Iraq." He says, cleaning a glass.
"Thank you for your service." You say quietly, then taking another nervous swig from your bottle.
"Much appreciated." He responds.
There's some more awkward tension as quiet music fills the silence.
"You ain't from around here are ya?" He asks.
"No. Moving from Washington." You respond.
"That's a long trip." He says.
"Sure has been." You say.
"What is a pretty girl like you doing in a shit hole like this?" He asks.
Your cheeks burn with blush as you try to collect your thoughts.
"I actually think you've got a nice place here uh--" You say, realizing you don't know his name.
"Clyde. Clyde Logan." He says.
"Nice to meet you Clyde. Y/N." You say.
You swear you see him smile.
"But to answer your question, Clyde, I just needed a new life. I was chewed up and spit out by my ex and I just couldn't stay in Washington anymore." You say, your heart aching the slightest bit.
"Good for ya. Not a lot of people would be able to do that." He says.
You and Clyde spend the next several hours talking about your lives and your experiences. The conversation is so light and so simple, it feels like you've known each other for years. You never want to stop talking to him. He glances at the clock.
"Damn. Shoulda closed an hour ago." He chuckles.
"Shit sorry." You say.
"It's alright. Talkin' to ya was worth it." He says, making you blush furiously again.
You get up and gather your things but Clyde stops you.
"If ya don't mind, I'd like to get your number. Especially since it sounds like you're gonna be stickin' around for a while." He says.
"Of course." You smile.
You quickly jot down your number on a napkin and slide it across the bar to him.
"Nice meeting you Clyde." You say.
"You too. See ya soon." He says.
"See you." You respond and head out the door.
You smile and giggle uncontrollably as you make your way back to your car. As you shut the door your phone buzzes.
Unknown Number
To new beginnings. --Clyde
You smile and quickly text back.
To new beginnings.
