Overview
James' hand loitered over the keys of his on-screen keyboard. His mind is disconnected, no ideas spouting. How can he explain his intimate feelings for such a dorky man?
James; I need to talk to you about something.
Adam is typing....
In retrospect, James should have thoroughly planned the steps ahead. For these steps determine his fate, not only of his confidence but of his friendship with his beloved, Adam. Trembling hands came to be clammy as he clenched them into fists, unkept nails imprinting crescent shapes into his skin. James displayed no outward struggle publicly announcing he was LGBTQ+, yet this newly profound emotion was a barrier between his fluttering heart and voice. No turning back, James watched as a small chat bubble popped up, painted white in contrast to the splashes of blue across the screen.
Adam ❤️; Are you mad at me? Idk you kinda sound like you're mad
James flinched in his desk chair. The dormant marshmallow James left on his tablet screen mirrored his shock. Or, maybe that was owing to the fact that James was midway through his latest animation when the urge to be physically intimate with his best friend re-emerged. His warm breath brushing against his neck, the taste of his lips (James always envisioned him to taste like bananas due to his excessive yapping about potassium. In actually, he'd taste like mouth. Like cheek, tongue, teeth). James craved it.
James; No! No. It's something else.
Adam; I'm something else
Jkjk yeah what is it?
James gave a half-stifled laugh. A hitch in his breath plunged him into a spiral. He vaguely recollected the time many moons ago that Adam had been surged with intrusive, homosexual thoughts, although he pondered whether that meant anything. Easily could he have grounded himself and briskly moved on with his day. James didn't. Boy if he could.
James; we're friends, aren't we?
Adam's phone pinged as indication James had continued. Adam didn't miss his peculiar, unfamiliar behaviour however lacked the right words in order to give voice to his worry. Adam had worried he'd caused a rift in their relationship; he dreaded the thought. Watching James slowly drift away after all they'd been through together. Not in a weird way, of course.
Adam ❤️; ye! Why?
Adam discarded his switch to one side as he awaited further comment. For a peculiar, unfathomable reason his palpitating heart ached. In that same moment he realised that if this were James drawing a close to their friendship, closing the stage curtains as to leave him on the outside, then his feelings would be left unsaid. Feelings of intimacy, feelings of LOVE.
James; alright, cool, cool, it's just
Nevermind, forget it.
James felt his heart burn as his message popped up in blue. No doubt Adam was confused as to what was burdening him however his brain short circuited after every attempt. 'I love you.' No, that's too basic. 'I have feelings for you.' That's far too desperate. Adam shouldn't feel as though he is being pressured or forced into such relationships. A huge commitment, they are, a commitment James would not want to put upon him when he is not prepared or wanting of it first.
What was he thinking falling in love with such a man?
Adam ❤️; Oh, alright then. Don't be afraid to talk to me if you need!
Adam was more worried than confused. Laid before them was what could make or break their relationship in ways the both of them were all too familiar of. In that instant, Adam pondered whether James thought that, too, which is why he was hesitating again.
