Me: Oh no. OH NO. OH NOOOOO!
Star: GOOD JOB, SMUGLEAF! *Slaps me harshly atop the head*
Shard: Huh? What's going on?
Me: *Curls up in a dark and lonely corner, neglecting to answer in utter shame*
Star: Shadow missed updating on very important holidays... U_U
Shard: Really? I thought you were back to updating regularly, Shadow!
Me: ...
Shard: What holidays were missed?
Star: Oh, you know. Christmas, New Year's... VALENTINE'S!
Shard: Valentine's?! But... this is a romance story!
Me: VALENTINE'S WASN'T THAT LONG AGO! I'M JUST A LITTLE BIT LATE! Go easy on me! ;w;
Star: Yeah, half a month isn't bad. SHAKING MY HEAD. -n-
Thunder: In Shadow's defense, she had to rewrite the entire chapter since it was turning out badly... and this battle's pretty intense, too.
Star: No excuses! O^O
Me: CAN I GET EVEN A SLIVER OF SYMPATHY HERE?! PWEASH?!
Star: Never, Smugleaf! Failure! Now you must suffer death... BY FONDUE!
Me: N-no! Anything but cheese! I'm vegan! ;_;
Star: Too late~ *Kicks me into a massive batch of hot, hot, oh so very hot cheese and whistles innocently directly afterwards*
Shard: ._.;;
Thunder: Ah, could that be called a meltdown? x3
Fang: Thundie, that joke was really- *Puts on sunglasses* -cheesy. *Explosions* YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAA-!
Thunder: *Shoves him into the fondue* Idiot. -_-
Thunder's POV
Energy drifted and bubbled and swarmed in my chest, crystallizing, fortifying, not quite prepped to propel away but I forced it to regardless. It trembled, fractured, distorted, the Shadow Ball, in a tantrum of night-painted smoke and buzzing stings that slice, slice, sliced across my complexion, maiming my skin and... leeching, leeching my health and will and strength, a numbing singe trampling my wounded figure. I sloshed in regret, self-disgust, and a myriad of rehashed fears about the boundless, infinite possibilities to dire ends of the battle. I shouldn't had submitted to desperation, should've endured the brunt of the strange purple-blue liquid or retaliated in a safer, better, smarter way without hurrying an attack and having it split with tension, with failure.
Somber flames haunted my vision as thick, stifling smoke cluttered my labored breaths, and the soft, glacial touch of wisps licked across my torso from the short-lived attack. I wheezed spasmodically and noticed the lost of control over my limbs, being unable to flee or stand or defend. The fringes of darkness bordering my vision announced the limit of my consciousness, a foreboding blur originating from a source other than heavy smog. The darkness, the drone of sleep, was alluring, yet I managed to ignore it, my eyes sluggishly scouring through the smoke and across sand and water and trees in resist dozing off. The polluted blend of smoke and glass and spectral energy swirled around my opponent, tainting the otherwise clear view of his gleeful snarl and strikingly red claws, which fortunately had released its merciless grip on my shoulders by then. A covet, a wish, a shocking desire throbbed in my chest to see the heinous feline or before serrated claws caught me off guard, before they hooked into my skin again.
