Chapter 10

Sasuke was a pretty quiet kid, and he preferred to stay alone. You had seen other girls his age trying to get his attention, but he always looked as if other things were in his mind. Which was why you didn't mind when he began to stick around the following days. He would meet you when school started, and when it ended. At first he would just walk behind you, pretending that he didn't know you, but then gradually he started to walk at your side.

And slowly, you found yourself just accepting his presence. It wasn't like other kids, specially since they were younger, wanted to be friends anyway. "You got your parents back." One day you decided to take some time for yourself, and stay away from home.

Your parents... Well, they were your parents but they were so apprehensive with you. They provided you with all that you needed but not with what you needed the most ;parents affection? You didn't expect them to hug you, kiss you. No, some encouragement here and there, maybe a few smiles. The only thing you received from them were cooked meals when you arrived home and awkward smiles. That was it. Your sister didn't even make an effort to get to know you, and you were sure that if she knew what you had done she would treat you worse.

He probably knew it wasn't recent that they found you, at least, not very recent, but there was more to what he said. He probably knew what was going on. "Yeah, you could say that ."

Sasuke remained quiet for a few seconds and then he spoke again. "They know what you've done, and they can pretend to be a happy famil-"

" I know, " you swallowed, furrowing your eyebrows. It was funny actually, that when they arrived you were happy to see them. It wasn't love for them of course, being away from them for over six years did the trick to well, kind of forget them. It was the excitement and hope that you could just feel wanted and appreciated . Hunko did an amazing job at making you feel like you were unwanted, no matter how much Hina tried her best to make you feel loved. "I" you paused to look up ahead, it was a training ground where your younger friend had taken you to. "Do...Do you think it would get better?"

Why you asked, you didn't know. You wanted to talk to someone, just like you used to do with Hina. The kid took his sweet time to respond and glanced at you, and then looked away. "When you arrived," he said, "I heard a lot about you. The news spread around the village for a while. It was a matter of time before others heard it too. Your parents probably knew that they would sought after and they wanted protection more than anything else."

You snapped your head towards Sasuke, you glared at him and you were furious. The more you thought about it, the more it all made some sense. Didn't the Hokage mention something like that? But, would they really just come for that. " You don't intend on staying with them, do you?" But your silence answered his question. He rose to his feet and made sure to stand in front of you, and then he glared at you. "Don't be so pathetic. They're stupid and blind to see that you did everyone a favor."

" I can't," you started and that shut him up. " I can't leave, not because I don't want to but because I'm not allowed to. The Hokage thinks I'm stupid. " Shaking your head, you brought your knees to your chest and hugged yourself. " At first I thought that they wanted to protect me but, I now I know why I can't leave. They want me to say the names of some of the clients, or maybe like, see some pictures or something. If I could leave, I probably would but I don't know how. I'll probably die or just get killed... "

" Get stronger so that you don't have to depend on anyone else." And he started to walk away only to stop when you replied.

" If only it was that simple," you stood up getting ready to go back home. If only it really was that simple. You would have preferred to train, right? If you did, you would have a fighting chance against whomever came for you. But no, your parents were against the idea. Once, you only asked once and they had refused. The Hokage wouldn't help either, apparently his hands were tied too.

So, your solution was to stick to the life you had now. And you hoped that with time your parents and yours sister would actually come and care for you. That when you arrived home you not only would be welcomed with a meal, but also a warm smile from them. For them to ask how your day when, to to reassure you that everything would be okay if your day didn't go well.

But for now, you just hopped that would be the case. Sasuke wasn't one to say how he felt, and weren't either, and you hoped that he realized just how much you appreciated his friendship. That  even if he did it for personal reasons, his friendship meant a lot to you. His friendship made your life so much easier. And with time, you also hoped that you two would remain friends. Because if you were being honest, you had no one else.
