Chapter 69

Coming from experience, using a single face was not such a good idea. That was why you continuously shifted from one face to another until you reached your destination. A destination you were not so sure of, but you found yourself arriving to the Sand Village.

For a moment, just a small moment you stopped walking when you came to stop in front of the Kazekage's building.  Memories flashed across your mind, find memories. The siblings had and will always be important to you, no matter what happened.

If there hadn't been any complications, you would have come here for protection. You knew you would have been just as happy, if not more. But, there was always a but? Right? But yes, you may have been close to the Kazekage and perhaps he grew fond to you, in his own way. But now he was the Village's leader and he had to put his emotions and attachments aside in order to protect his people.

It hurt to know that he too would have agreed to turn you in. However, you did not blame him not did you blame Tsunade. It made sense that in order to save, to protect innocent lives yours has to be sacrificed.

And as someone who in your past protected and saved innocent lives from sex slavery... You understood. And even now, even now you considered turning yourself in. What was the worse to happen, your death, yes but .... But all your suffering would end there right?

Honestly, the happiness you once felt had been nothing but an illusion and you were stupid enough to believe that you could be happy for the rest of your life.

"[Name]?" Upon hearing your name being called, and being deep into your thoughts you had forgotten you were not [Name] but someone else. Either way, when you realized your mistake, it had been already too late.

Kankuro stood in front of you, and he was not sure whether to frown or smile. Though he then continued to rush forward and hug you, and once he did you shifted back to yourself. Slowly you returned his embrace.

The male remained in that position for minutes, and he did not want to let go but he has to. Finally he pulled back, but remained close. His hands rested on your shoulders, and you could see just how much he had missed you, he didn't need to vocalize it. "I'm sorry, I know it has been... Such a long time. "

The male finally smiled and shook his head. "Come on, the other will want to see you."

Without another word, he grabbed your hand and dragged you to Gaara. Said male had been in the middle of a conversation with Temari, both of them stopped the conversation when their eyes landed on you.

Temari was just as quick as Kankuro had been, though instead of a hug she hit you on the back of your head. Not as hard as you thought she would, you deserved it. "Damn it [Name], why do you always have to get in trouble. Do you know how worried we, I mean, Kankuro and Garra have been?"

Gaara smiled, but it was a sad smile and you knew why. The Hokage must have kept him up to date. "Hello [Name], it's so good to see you."

But you couldn't stop yourself, and although Temari struggled a bit she allows you to hug her. Then you moved on to the Kazekage, who had been seating down and you caught him off guard.  "I was waiting for the Hokage to let me come and visit you guys. But, she was still working on it. " Then you turned to look at Temari, then to Kankuro. You stopped on him, and it was as if he would see what was going on inside your head. He-if possible-, turned pink. You remembered his confession, and you wondered if he still felt the same way. Actually, you had thought about it before about accepting his confession and giving him a chance....

But it seemed that couldn't be. At the end you offered your gaze to Gaara. "How did you find out?" Finally he questioned.

"That doesn't really matter," you replied,

Kankuro's feet pounded on the floor as he rushed closer. "Hold on, found out what exactly?"

Temari looked away, "Time Keepers, they want her back... They have not only threatened the Leaf Village but the rest as well."

"What?" Kankuro growled, "we're not going to let that happen ... Right Gaara?" There was silence after that, "but... She's... She's important to us, we can't let them take her. We don't know what they're going to do to her. "

" Kankuro... " Temari warned.

" No!" He shouted not caring if people heard him. " I'm not going to tlet then take her. She's... Look at her! She's a civilian, she's trying to live like everyone else. Why?! I'm not goin-"

" Hey, " turning to face him, you lifted your arm and cupped his cheek.

"What?! You think I'm happy about that?" Finally Temari exploded.

Letting out a long breath, with your hand on Kankuro's cheek, you turned to face Gaara. " I didn't intend to come here."

" The Akatsuki, we heard about their proposal. " Tsunade definitely updated Gaara about everything.

" You're... You were going to go to them? They're after Gaara. Why would... "

Temari sounded betrayed, and she was right. " That was my intention... They're the best shot I have if I want to live." Live, a part of you wanted to live. To see just what life had to offer. " I don't want to go back to what I used to do. I'm tired of that life, I've done my part for save others and I just felt it was time for me to live." Because you deserved it. " If I go to the Akatsuki, they'll protect me and maybe I get to survive. But the cost of that protection is going to be expensive. But I would be er help them get to you Gaara, I'll rather have them kill me than to see them take you."

" If you don't go to them, you're... They're going to kill you. It isn't fair, " Kankuro grabbed your hand and hanged on to it. " Gaara..."

" Life isn't always fair, " slowly and although it killed as to see the broken look on Kankuro, you removed your hand. " If I go to the Akatsuki they're going to help me control my ability and maybe I can use it... To undo this whole thing. Or I can stay, the Hidden Leaf Village probably sent someone and they're on their way. I can return to them and wait for the Time Keepers to come and retrieve them. And all of this madness can end. Your call, I'm not going to fight any of you as I try to flee. If you wish to stop me, then I'll stop fighting back. "

Silence once more, none of them said anything but you could feel the dread in the air. It was painful for all of you.

" I believe we, as Kages, owe you an apology. You wouldn't have to face the difficulties you faced if they had done their job properly. Instead they dumped all of that responsibility on your shoulders. Now when you need our help, we are giving you our backs. " The red headed male stood from his chair. "The least we owe you, if the opportunity to survive. Or at least, give you a head start. "

It pained the leader to say it because eventually he too would have to send someone to hunt you down if things turned out for the worse. If you became a danger to everyone. "Gaara..."

You wanted to cry, but you held your tears back and smiled instead. You hugged Gaara, and pulled Temari into the hug too. With just one look Kankuro rushed forward and you hugged the three of them. Your chest ached you terribly, you would refer to have a knife into your chest and being twisted instead of feeling your chest shatter into a million pieces.

You were not sure for how long the four remained like that, but you knew it was time to leave. None of them wanted to let go, but the knew they had to. And they did, and all they could do was watch as you transformed into someone else and began to walk out the door.

With a final smile, you said your goodbye and walked out of their lives. Walked out and into the lives of the Akatsuki. Outside the village a man was already waiting for you, an spy had been waiting and he was quick to guide you away.

And you wondered... What would your life be like from now on?
