On road to Kaleb's Mansion,

"Kaleb. Kaleb! Are you there?" "Y-yes, Father, I'm still here," He could hear his father sigh from the other end of the phone, "Just don't tell me about it then. Bring me the document tomorrow morning, and we'll discuss it then," The phone disconnected.
Kaleb rubbed his temple as a throbbing headache came and went by. He was driving straight back home, only making stops to refill on coffee. He could've flown back home, as his father suggested, but he realized that would leave his mind too free to wander around. Not what he needed at this moment.
He took one hand off the wheel and dialed up Mary's number. It went in two rings, and she picked up.
"Hey babe," he smiled as he heard her voice, "I didn't expect you to call at this hour. Aren't you supposed to be on a flight?"
"Yeah, but I decided to drive," he heard her scoff. "That's unlike you."
He paused for a moment to collect his thoughts. Mary waited on the other line,
"Is there any chance that you could drop your work for tonight?" he said,
"What?"
"Like give it to one of your assistants or something,"
"Is everything alright, Kaleb?"
"Yeah," he said, "Just wanted to take you out for tonight. Make up for Valentine's Day,"
"Really?" she chuckled,
"I'm going to get to the house before you. Meet me there as soon as you can, and we can spend the night together. Maybe even tomorrow,"
"Uh...ok. Guess Becky is getting a hell lot of work to do tonight," she said
"Guess she is. See you soon. I love you," he said the last part softly,
"W-what?"
"Nothing. See you soon."
He hung up the phone and switched his gaze to the city lights he was surrounded by. He chuckled, "Guess I don't say that often," he mumbled to himself.
He felt safer as he was surrounded by the buzz of the city. It felt familiar and more alive compared to where he was on his little trip off from work. He got to the gated residence in the hills. The guards stopped him as he approached the gates.
He rolled down his window as one of the guards approached him.
"What's wrong?" Kaleb asked,
The expression on the man's face switched too fast to embarrassment, "M-Mr. Michaels! I apologize, sir, but we didn't recognize you,"
He was to ask why not till he realized that he was driving the civilian car from earlier.
He chuckled, "It's alright. Can I get in now, if you don't mind? I need to get prepared for the night."
"O-of course Mr. Michaels. One thing though,"
"What?" he asked as the gates opened,
"Your brother arrived earlier and is waiting for you at your house," Kaleb sighed, "Thanks for telling me," He replied with a smile.
What was supposed to be a five-minute drive to his house felt like an hour. The gates were waiting for him to open. He felt his stomach eat itself as he saw the outline of his brother's figure sitting on the stairs leading to the main door [patio?] He parked the car next to his brother's and got out.

FanfictionThe title says it all but I am going to explain anyway. A reimagining following ,mostly, the same characters with what I deemed to be a better plot trajectory. Hope you enjoy.
