I glossed through the documents the PI sent me one last time. He didn't find anything much about Y/N. The town itself turned down anyone who asked, and the guy was really good at staying under the radar. Which makes the information he was guarding so much more precious.
I swatted away the fly as it broke me out of concentration. This place was somehow more humid than LA, and the hotel room lived up to its three stars. I fixed my clothes in the mirror, made sure the fake ID was visible, that the glasses were propped right, and fixed my newly red hair, then headed out with the rental car to New Port.
I pumped out the AC and switched through the local radio channels to get a feel of the place. Local News, Pop songs, then more local news.
"So, it's basically like LA but less celebrity talk. So much for information gathering."
The neighborhood that he lived in, once I got to New Port, wasn't far away. The closer I got to the place, the more abandoned it seemed. People kept staring at the car as I passed by. "Should've probably got a less obvious one," I reached the small neighborhood. I parked the car and got out.
I opened maps, but the only thing marked was the beach on my far left. It wasn't even in the neighborhood. I sighed. I looked around for anyone out, but the whole place seemed abandoned. I started walking on the sidewalk, hoping to find someone. Half was me was thinking of going back in the car and sending someone else to take care of this, but when I looked back, the car was out of sight, "Shit,"
I turned and continued the walk. I could hear the doors of the houses of my sides closing. Widow blinders shutting as they caught sight of me. One woman was looking through the window. I waved at her with a smile, but her only response was closing the blinders shut.
I was brought back from my dazed state when I saw a police car coming from the front of me. I stood where I was, and it parked right to my side. No one got out for a moment, but I could hear 2 people talking behind the tinted windows. Said people finally got out. 2 officers that looked like a father and son duo and the only officers in this pseudo abandoned town.
The father figure eyed me down,
"I got reports that you were disturbing the neighborhood young man,"
"They fucking called the cops on me,"
"You got the wrong impression, sir," I said, "I came here for business and was looking for the police station," He paused, "Get in the car. We'll take you there. If anything happens, we'll just arrest you there either way,"
"Lovely."
I opened the back door of the car and got in. The son turned on the radio and started talking,
"Bravo 19, this is Eagle 14, over,"
"Eagle 14, this is Emma. You guys don't report in this early. Did one of the kids toilet paper a house again?"
"No, Emma, we have a visitor," he said
"A visitor?"
The kid turned to me, then back to the radio, "Yeah. He says that he came here for business."
The woman on the other side paused, then responded,
"Can I get a name?" I kid turned to me again,
"Jordan," I said, "Jordan Miller,"
"Did you get that?" he asked,
"Affirmative Eagle 14, over and out,"
"Do they have to get prepared for my arrival or something?" I joked; he didn't reply.

FanfictionThe title says it all but I am going to explain anyway. A reimagining following ,mostly, the same characters with what I deemed to be a better plot trajectory. Hope you enjoy.
