I walk around to Violet's desk, making sure to avoid Jai and Nathan at all costs.
I'm just not ready to face him yet...
"Hey!" Violet greeted me.
And then she realized the change.
"Woah..." She backed up to get a full view.
"Look I know its different but I-"
"Chill! I think you look hot!" She exclaims.
"I mean I knew that already," I tease.
We both laugh and in the process I see both Nathan and Jai staring at me and talking to each other.
But for now I'm doing my best to ignore it.
I sit in my assigned seat across from Violet and as soon as she sits down she jumps right back up.
"Okay so you know that app everyone has now? Uhh...uhh...I forgot the name but its the app where a bunch of anonymous people get to ask you random questions but they already know who you are," she explains.
"Ask.fm?"
"Yes! Yes that is the one!"she shouts.
"Well anyways I made one yesterday and my first question was 'Your uglier than my crap in a toilet." And I was all like 'Thanks captain obvious!' Omg but the rest of my questions were like generated from the app so...Hey! You should get one!"she says.
"Ehhhh....maybe I don't know if it's the right time..." I answer.
"Okay, but mabye your supporters will you know...support you on your page if someone says anything rude," she states.
"Can't they do that on Instagram or like Twitter? Well I don't really use my Twitter anymore but I mean..." I say.
"Okay...whatever... But you know you want one..."
"I said maybe!"
Then the bell rings signaling for us to get to our seats before the teacher walks in.
The way the tables are set up, the only way for Nathan to get to his seat is by walking past me. He walks with Jai all the way to his spot which is right next to me. After Jai sits down, he gives Nathan a high five. He notices I'm staring and offers me a high five too.
I sit there shocked that he is even willing to touch me.
Obviously to much time has gone by so he rolls his eyes and goes back to his seat.
Once he sits down he looks at me and I roll my eyes back at him in annoyance.
The teacher comes in and asks for the homework.
Oops...oh well.
"Okay, I have everyone's homework except... Gabriella and Nathan. Where is your homework guys?" She asks.
"I think I left it at home," Nathan responds.
"I didn't do it,my bad" I sit back in my chair.
Violet looks a little shocked but I just shrug my shoulders.
"Yeah that is your bad, because instead of doing our activity for the day, you to will be doing your homework in the hallway," she states.
"And if your assistant principal walks by, have fun explaining to him why you can't do your homework," she glares at us and points to the door.
Well this will be fun...
I trudge out the door with Nathan right behind me.
We sit on opposite sides of the hallway in silence for about five minutes until Nathan walks over to my side and breaks the silence.
He sighs,"Can you help me with this?" He asks, smiling.
I know exactly what he's doing.
He still thinks I think his smile is the cutest thing ever.
He still thinks his dimples will make me forget how to add two plus two.
He still thinks I care if he's upset with me, or that I would do any and everything to be close to him.
Well I hope he realizes soon I'm not trying to make a new fashion statement.
I also hope he realizes its not for him
Its for me to show him Im someone else now.
I stare back at him, with a annoyed expression.
"Is that a no?"
"I don't know, it could be a no,"
"Okay then so what else could it be?"
"It could be a 'get away from me before I kick you in the eye' or you know..."I scribbled some random numbers as answers on the paper.
"Dang okay," he sat back, leaning on the wall behind me.
I write more numbers down when I hear him sigh loudly.
I look at him but he's staring at his paper.
For some reason my eyes don't move.
They stay locked on him, and I don't know why.
He lifts his eyes to where they met mine and he smiled.
No! Don't give in! Don't give in! Look away! LOOK AWAY!
I state for one more single moment, then return my gaze to my homework with a slight feeling of regret.
No. You don't regret your choices anymore.
This constant battle gets tiring...
He sighs once more,"I know..."
"What?" I say, trying to sound annoyed.
"You finally figured out how to multiply?" I tease.
"No... I'm not talking about math," he responds.
I flip my hand and make a face.
He copies.
"I know why your mad at me," he says.
There are so many words that are trying to flow out of my mouth like a river, but I hold it in pretty well.
"Who said I was mad?" I look away.
"You did! When you threatened to kick me in the eye if I didn't get out of your face," he joked.
I rolled my eyes.
"See! That right there, you wouldn't have rolled your eyes at me of you weren't upset with me. And if you did, you would have smiled at me after," he states.
Why...How...Since when did he pay so much attention to what I do after I roll my eyes?
"Whatever," is all I say.
"Yesterday. That's why your mad," his deep whisper is all I hear.
Yesterday...
Painful memories flood into my head and it becomes all I can see.
I stare at nothing, just seeing the past day wanted to make me throw up.
Or less...
"Hello?" His deep voice was muffled as I continued to relive the past day in my head.
Or less...
"Gabriella?" His voice called again.
Or less...
He waved his hand in front of my face and I suddenly came back to reality.
I grabbed his wrist and stared at him, my hand was shaking and I was afraid if I spoke my voice would tremble so I just stared as water began to rise in my eyes.
"Woah! What the heck let go!" He tried to shake my hand off but I heldnon tight.
"Let go!" He yelled.
I forcefully let go then stormed out of the hallway. I didn't even finish the homework but I didn't care. I left it there and as I turned a corner in the hallway I could see Nathan, copying the answers.
