Ace happily let Harper lead him this way and that. Her eyes still wide with excitement, like this was her first time in 1959 all over again. Except this time she was actually happy to be here and with Ace by her side she was beginning to feel like she actually belonged. She was more than happy to use what money she had on books that caught her eyes, having read them many times she knew nothing could beat a classic.
"So remind me why you're making me get all these?" Ace grumbled slightly as he took a bag of books from her.
"So I can read them? Duh?" She responded sarcastically.
"Well I figured that smart arse, I meant why now? Surely there's better things we could be doing?" He mumbled suggestively.
Harper shook her head. "I told you Ace." She spun and faced him, gently resting a hand on his cheek.
"We got 70 years and more for that." She finished as she leant up and planted a soft kiss on his lips.
"You think we're still gonna be having sex in our 70s?" He asked with a laugh as she pulled away.
Her face grimaced as he laughed. "I mean I'm game if you are."
She shook her head quickly and turned to walk away but he quickly reached out with his free hand and gripped her wrist, spinning her back to face him.
"Ain't no way I'm waiting 70 years though." He grumbled as she smiled sweetly up at him.
"How about 69?" She asked grinning still.
"Alright love, didn't realise that was your thing." The smirk on his face grew.
Harper then realised what it was she had said. Quickly shaking her head, causing him to laugh and nod quickly.
"Oh you said it, no take backs!" He quickly blurted out as she also tried to take that back.
"Hey I can't believe I've been here this long and you've not given me a drink!" She quickly snapped, hoping to change the subject.
"I can't believe you've been here this long and you've not had sex with me!" He snapped back still laughing.
"You'll get sex later, I want a drink now." Harper retorted as she crossed her arms over her chest.
"Is that a promise?" He questioned, staring at her.
"I bet all 70 years of our future on it." She smirked back.
He smiled impressed as he stepped closer. "Oh so you're betting our future on it?"
She bit her lip as she nodded, looking up at him.
"Oh yeah, if we don't have sex tonight then that's our future gone." She smirked as he leant down and planted another kiss on her lips.
"Well looks like you're just gonna have to have sex with me."
"Once I've finally had a drink." She quickly retorted before he could kiss her again.
He scoffed slightly as he let out another grumble, watching her walk inside Irbys.
Begrudgingly he followed and saw her taking a seat actually on one of the pool tables, completely interrupting a game being played by two other men.
Ignoring their threats for her to get off she smirked over at Ace. She knew he wouldn't be able to help himself but step in if either of these men made so much a move towards her.
Of course, as she refused to move and get off their table they did, both appeared at her side as they continued to threaten her.
Then one placed a hand on her arm, ready to yank her off. But naturally he didn't get a chance. Ace was standing in front of her in a heartbeat, glaring at both men.
They naturally took a few steps back. Harper continued to smile at him as he looked between both men.
"I believe what you were about to say was have a nice game Harper." Ace growled out as Harper smiled at both men.
One instantly offered up his cue. "Have a nice game Harper." He mumbled as Harper reached out and took it, continuing to smile at him.
Ace put the bag of books down on the floor before turning and facing the other guy, placing a hand on Harper's leg for good measure.
"Have a nice game Ace?" Ace asked him politely but the sarcastic tone was clear.
The other guy offered Ace his cue slowly. "Have a nice game Ace."
Ace smiled nastily at him as he took the cue and both guys slowly began to slink off. Harper couldn't wipe the grin from her face as she turned to look at Ace, who had now stepped closer to her, splitting her legs so he could stand in between.
"Really? You enjoy that?" He asked her sarcastically.
The smirk stayed on her face as she nodded and bit her lip. "Knew you wouldn't let them touch me." She mumbled as she brought her free hand up to his cheek.
Yet before she could kiss him her eyes caught the sight of someone else walking in.
"And there's someone I won't let touch you." She grumbled lowly as Ace turned slightly.
His ex-girlfriend was now standing at the bar, attempting to order a drink as she glared at the couple.
"Oh that's just-" Ace started but stopped as Harper finished his sentence.
"Betsy Malenfant." Harper finalised.
Ace snapped his head back to her. "How'd you know that?"
Harper shrugged slightly as she placed her hand on his shoulder and gripped his shirt a little tighter. "Wikipedia."
Ace pulled another confused look.
"Well the Stephen King Wikipedia to be precise." Harper mumbled to herself as she continued to send daggers at the girl who was sending them to her.
"Well you don't have to worry, I'm not that fussed about her now." Ace mumbled as he leant closer to her and tried to nuzzle into her neck. The hand he had on her leg gently going higher up her thigh as he softly kissed her neck.
"Well I've read enough fan fiction to know it's not over." Harper spat out through gritted teeth.
"Course it's over. I broke it off with her a couple of years back." Ace mumbled as he continued trying to distract Harper.
It didn't work. She stayed focused on staring at Betsy as Ace's ex glared right back at her.
Harper only broke eye contact when the door to the bar opened and Eyeball walked in.
He took one look at Betsy before turning and see Harper and Ace by the pool table. He clocked Harper and Betsy's glared to each other as he realised Ace didn't have a clue.
Sighing he gave Betsy a glare of his own before walking over to his leader and his only girl.
