האנימה עוסקת בנער צעיר בשם ריקואו נורא (שם משפחה) המגושם המגמגם והמביך, סבו ולפניו של ריקואו הם שדים אך רצף של נישואין עם בני אדם הביא את ריקואו למצב בו הוא שני שליש אדם ושליש שד. סבא רבא סבו ואבא של ריקואו היו ידועים בתור "הנוראריהון" מפקדי שדים ודאגו לשמור על הסדר בין בני אדם לשדים כמה שיכלו (עד למצב שרוב האנשים לא מאמינים בשדים). לפי המסורת ריקואו צריך לרשת את התפקיד מאביו אך יש לו בעיה לא קטנה, ריקואו מחולק בנפשו ביום הוא אנושי ובלילה, רק בלילה יכול לקרות כשדמו מתרתח שעירו מתארך והצד השני שלו שולט. לצד השדי יש את הזיכרונות של ריקואו והרגשות שלו לא פוגע בבני אדם אבל אישיותו משתנה ובניגוד לריאוקו הוא אוהב להילחם בראש ולעשות בלגן ודרמה.
