Kakegurui היא סדרת טלוויזיה העוסקת בחייהם של תלמידי בית הספר הפרטי "אקדמיית היאקאו" - מוקד מפגש של האליטות של החברה היפנית, המהווה מקפצה עבור בוגריו לחיים עשירים וחלומיים. הבטחות אלו כמובן לא מיועדות לכולם. הטיפוס לפסגת "היאקאו" מושג באמצעות הימורים המפוקחים על ידי מועצת התלמידים הכוחנית - ומי שמוצא את עצמו מפסיד עלול לא רק לאבד את כספו ואת מעמדו, אלא גם את עתידו המבטיח. תלמידה חדשה בשם ג'באמי יומקו מצטרפת לבית הספר והופכת מיד למטרה עבור המהמרים המנוסים שמזהים טרף קל, אך אלו מתבדים מהר ומשלמים על טעויותיהם אחד אחר אחרי השני כאשר יומקו מתגלה כמהמרת לא פרייאית בעצמה
