A/N: Just a heads up, this chapter has some battles, blood and killing. If that's not your cup of tea, then you're welcome to skip to the next chapter after I write it. This chapter just gives details about the attack on the castle.
As the queen and princesses made their escape, most of the able bodied men rushed to defend the castle of Corona. Women helped others escaped while the men grabbed any weapon they could find. Chefs grabbed their butcher knifes, butlers used candlesticks, fireplace tools or broken shards of glass. The guards took their swords and joined King Eugene in the fight. No one was quite sure who they were fighting. At first guess, it would be robbers. However robbers usually wouldn't have made such a large pack and band together to raid the castle. There were barely any criminals in Corona too, it was a peaceful kingdom. Whatever the case, everyone was too busy defending themselves to solve the mystery.
Eugene was at the throne room with 4 other guards. Each had a sword in her hand, at any moments more enemies would charge in. They were coming to every room, corridor and balcony. Some stole the valuables, while others just destroyed.
Bam! The main doors swung open and a gang of 7 assailants entered, quick to attack and kill. One with a crossbow, shot at a guard's knees. Another with a burlap sack immediately started getting anything he coukld have his hands on and dumping it in while 2 others covered him. Eugene immediately took out 3 of the enemies. "Look out!" called a guard before he jumped in front of the king.
An arrow flew right between the guard's eyes. "Lucas!" cried Eugene, before he ran to the crossbow man and swiftly stabs his heart.
Eventually, the assailants were taken down. One guard, Jorah, was killed in the process. He had sucessfully stabbed 2 raiders, right before a third one shot him in the back with an arrow.
At the end of the fight, there were only 2 guards left. The carpet was stained red with blood, blood was everywhere. Even more foes had come into the throne room, and were killed soon after. More than 4 battles took place in the throne room.
A horn suddenly blew out and Eugene could hear the raiders shouting to retreat. At his signal, the Corona fighters rushed to a window or balcony and grabbed bows and arrows. They started shooting at the raiders who were now running out of the castle. A majority was killed, but some managed to survive and escape. The stragglers had run into the dark woods, leaving nothing behind them except their dead comrades.
Fatigued took over every man after they left. The brave warriors couldn't even rest yet. They would have to clean up the bodies, bury their own men and somehow find the women who managed to get to the faraway escape towers. Even after the cleanup, they would continue searching for the survivors, they had their work cut out for them. This was not over at all, in fact this would be just the beginning of a spiralling mystery of who attacked the castle and who was behind the attack.
