Holly's P.O.V
We must've been running and walking for hours. Finally, we reached it, a safety tower. Towers like these were built across Corona, in case of danger members inside the royal castle could come here and escape. Dried and storable foods were kept in cabinets. There was a well on the lowest floor to access water. Plenty of fireplaces were around the tower to stay warm and obtain well lit rooms. Surival chances were always greatly increased after reaching the tower. Nanny Nona led us to the door, which was hidden under a bush of vines, leaves and flowers. We used some shears to cut the door open before we entered. Of course, Nanny Nona had to use a lot of keys to unlock the locks that were still there. I closed the heavy metal door behind me and used several of the old metal locks that had begun to erode and rust.
The inside of the tower was dusty and had a faint mildew smell. I'll be honest here, I missed the castle a lot and I had just stepped into my "new home" for the time being. There wasn't any light, but luckily Nona brought along an oil lamp. I wished she didn't open the light because the light revealed large cobwebs and even larger black spiders and insects that scurried into the cracks as we walked up the stairs.
Could this be any worse? I thought to myself. My question was answered with a gray rat making an uncute squeak and running right in front of me! I shuddered, I hated this place already. How would I live here? I couldn't wait to be rescued.
After much walking up stairs we reached the top of the tower. I had to say, the more we elevated, the better the tower seemed. I was so glad I decided to put my hair up into a topknot after one look at the dirty, grimy floors.
AT the tippy top, was a small kitchen, eating area and a simple lounge. On the floor below it were 4 different bedrooms. I chose a bedroom with soft pink walls and a mahigany bed. There was also a mahogany wardrobe with some clothes. Even more clothes were in the chest of drawers on the other side of the room. They varied in sizes, most of them fit me. They were all meant for teenage girls. I changed out of my dirty clothes to a comfy dark green knit sweater and simple blue sweatpants. I found a pair of white slippers and kept my hair in its bun. This was completely different from the purples and pinks I would usually sport, but beggars can't be choosers. When I walked out, Nona had changed into a simple blue dress with a large white apron in front of her. She passed me a smaller one and told me we would have to cook dinner ourselves.
"Something simple today, how about some canned tomato soup?" Nona suggested.
I nod and add, "We can put some dried vegatables in too."
Dinner was easy to make, it was nothing like the large meals I was acustomed to. I missed my old life in Corona, but now I didn't need tink about living, I needed to survive. Those rogues could still be out there, who knows how long I'll stay here? I hope my family is okay and someday I can be reunited with them.
