Ch. 1 The Preface

On Monday, September 12, 2005, it was a beautiful sunny morning at Gold Coast, Australia. Four females sat next to each other and looked out to the ocean.

" Luna. Do you have to leave Gold Coast?" A seventeen-year-old female with long curly dark brown hair and ocean green eyes named Cleo Sertori asked, sounding sad.

A seventeen-year-old female with long wavy black hair and chocolate brown eyes named Luna Brown turned her gaze to her best friend, Cleo.

" Sadly, yes. I know we started our Senior year. But, Mom got a new job opportunity at Forks, Washington, that will pay her well. And finding a house over there wasn't hard because my Mom's younger brother, Uncle Billy, is the current Elder Chief of the Quileute tribe, so he helped us find a home to live in within the tribe," Luna explained.

" Can't Mrs. Brown move over there by herself?" A seventeen-year-old female named Rikki Chadwick with wavy platinum-blonde hair and sky-blue eyes asked, looking and sounding annoyed.

Luna amusingly laughed. However, her chocolate brown eyes are saddened. She didn't like the idea of moving across the ocean, away from her sisterly pod.

" As much as I hate the idea of leaving this beautiful city that I call home. You know I can't have my Mom go over there by herself. She's my Mom, after all. My Dad knows Gold Coast is our childhood home, but we have to make Mom happy," Luna explained with tears welling up in her chocolate brown eyes.

Cleo frowned when she saw Luna looking upset. She never liked seeing any of her best friends looking and feeling upset because it made her sad.

" Do be careful," Cleo softly speaks. " I researched all about the Washington state and specifically the nearby towns around your tribe. And it states that the area always rains," She looks at Luna in the eyes.

Luna nods her head in response. She knew her sisterly pod was worried about her being in a new place by herself because they were the only ones who knew about her being a mermaid.

Luna looks away and turns her gaze to the ocean. Her gaze softened as she began to recall the night that changed her and her best friends' lives forever.

Two years ago, Luna recently turned fifteen on Saturday, December 14, 2002. Even though she celebrated her birthday with her best friends on that specific day, they decided to go camping on a nearby island five days later, after they completed their finals.

It was on Thursday, December 19, 2002, when Luna and her best friends' lives got changed forever. Fifteen-year-old Rikki thought it would be exciting and fun to explore the island. However, it was nighttime, which made the other females worried.

Not wanting Rikki to get hurt if she explored the island herself, the others agreed to accompany her.

" Are you sure you know where you are going?" A fourteen-year-old female named Emma Gilbert with long straight golden-blonde hair and sapphire-blue eyes asked, looking and sounding concerned.

A fourteen-year-old Cleo hugs Luna's arm as the two females look at their surroundings curiously and warily.

" Do you see me with a map?" Rikki asked while waving her hands at Emma.

Emma's sapphire blue eyes narrowed. Even though she and Rikki are only friends, thanks to Luna and Cleo, the two constantly clash because of their different personalities.

" Guys! It's Luna's birthday trip, remember. Be nice," Cleo reasons with the two females.

Rikki and Emma turned their gaze to Luna.
