The sky began to darken into its glorious hues of orange and pink as dusk approached ahead of you on that lone country road. Tall evergreens passed by in your wake as you drove through a highway of forest. It would be nightfall when you reached Gotham, not that you were too happy about to be arriving at that time but you supposed it would give you the opportunity to maybe catch sight of the bat. A tired sigh escaped from your lips, already weary of what was to come once you made it to Gotham; the dangers that awaited, the living situation once you got there, the bat, and most importantly dealing with the rise of crime with gang wars to come.
Although your assignment was to observe and report in discretion on the amount of criminal activity that was occurring in the city, you knew it wouldn't be an easy task to handle. 'They have to have known we would make an appearance sooner or later...' you thought as you drove around a bend in the road. Your mind already spanning to be in deep thought began to analyze the situation to come upon arrival to the city.
'If word got out that the FBI was investigating; things would accelerate for sure, making all hell break loose.' your brows furrowed in analysis. 'Falcone's throne would be taken just as fast...' you could feel your hands clench at the wheel as a frown took place on your otherwise neutral expression. The stress of the situation was already affecting you, efforts in relaxing your grip proving futile on the steering instrument. 'I shouldn't overwhelm myself about this yet... I need to relax.' Thinking you were in need of a distraction from your thoughts, you flipped the switch on the car radio in hopes of temporarily removing the metaphorical weight on your shoulders.
"Several days have passed since our story on Edward Nashton or 'the Riddler's' viral exposition on Thomas Wayne..." were the first words spewed out from the radio host that you happened to land on once you switched the radio back on. "Billionaire and son of Thomas Wayne, Bruce Wayne, has yet to make an appearance on this matter. His staff has yet to make a statement on this story. Stay tuned as we discuss this development."
You scoffed at the news. "Who would make an appearance if someone exposed you?.." you commented, your head shaking at the report. "People should just mind their damn business.."
It wasn't that you were siding in favor of the Waynes or Bruce for that matter, having been skeptical of the elite or those who had a wealthy enterprise. But you did believe in the privacy of people unless under suspicious circumstances.
Bruce Wayne would have been one of those suspicious circumstances in your book, but you sympathized with his upbringing even though there were glaring differences between the two of you.
Still, you couldn't help but feel there was a feeling of something being off about him the last few times he had graced the screen after watching the news about him just days ago.
Perhaps in the happenstance that you might cross paths with him during your fieldwork, this feeling would be put to rest.

Night had fallen over Gotham, with few sources of light littered here and there in some of the high-rise buildings that towered the city.
As the city grew darker and small amounts of light became scarce; it was the perfect setting for crimes to be committed.
Criminals had become bolder since the bombing of the sea wall, knowing that Batman couldn't be everywhere at once in the shadows yet it wasn't to say that they felt more comfortable basking in the rays of daylight. Because still, they worried that he could be there in the shadows even if there was no possibility he wasn't. The bat signal displayed prominently in the sky was evident of that.
And here it was shown high in the sky as a sign for him to make his appearance.
"You don't normally light the signal this early..." came the slightly gruff, low voice of the masked vigilante, his figure emerging from the shadows to the left of Gordon as he crossed over in short strides to the officer.
"Jesus— must you always do that?!" the lieutenant responded in alarm, his hand clutching his chest from startlement before slowly retreating back to his side. He was met with silence in response, the intense gaze of the bat staring him down.
"Anyways," Gordon continued as he dismissed his silent response. "We have a bit of a problem."
"What sort of problem?"
"The kind that would lead to the higher-ups coming over here." Bruce's expression remained unchanged under the mask, his presence giving radiating in a composed aura as he listened for the news Gordon had to speak with him about.
"The FBI is sending out an operative to investigate the rise in criminal activity here," he began. "Now normally this wouldn't be a dilemma because of a contact I know in the department. But..." there was a pause as Gordon began to take in the weight of the situation. "...they sent someone else in their place." It wasn't hard for Bruce to recognize how Gordon felt about this ordeal, his body language speaking for him as the older man continued to speak. "And from what I heard, she is notorious on the job..." the dark eyes of the lieutenant had come to rest on the concrete floor at the last statement.
"They want you... out of the picture." he finished, his eyes lifting to return eye contact to the vigilante's gaze. "Do you see what I mean by the problem this would pose?" he questioned, his expression serious as he awaited in response from him.
The silence from before greeted him once again, Gordon's lips pressed thin as he waited for what the Bat would say. He knew there was no way that he would dispose of his partnership with the vigilante especially since much of Gotham's survival depended on him. It was a mistake even though they were right that the image of a masked vigilante taking justice into his own hands was not the best look for law enforcement or justice for that matter.
"When it comes down to it," Gordon's ears perked as he finally heard him speak. "... we'll be able to see how we can handle it from there." came his response.
His answer was short and to the point even though it was of a "when we get there we'll deal with it" type of response; a dismissal of the problem that was to come.
The lieutenant's mouth was quick to open in protest before suddenly closing shut. He wanted to have a chance to openly discuss the matter compared to the temporary solution the crusader had offered, however, at the same time, Gordon trusted his judgment. Neither he nor the vigilante knew if the rumors about the agent were true and there was always a possibility that things would remain the same.
The sooner you arrived the better.
"If you say so..."

A/N| Hi y'all I forgot to put an author's note in the first chapter so I'll just add it here.
Sorry last chapter was short, hopefully this chapter and Log 03 will make up for it.
Funny story is that I had not intended this fanfic to be a multi-chapter series but a one-shot yet here I am here... setting up the story to be longer than that.
Anyways I give credit to @crvelwvrldd on Tumblr for originally giving me this idea of Battinson x FBI! Reader because honestly I was suffering for those few Battinson x Reader fanfics.
It might be a while when I update chapters since I have Finals for uni. Hopefully this chapter and last chapter were good, I was retired from writing fanfiction for four years until now so I apologize if it sucks.
Sadly I had to sacrifice Bats and Reader's first interaction for the next chapter but hopefully, Log 03 makes up for it. Log 02 was actually going to be much longer but I decided to cut it in half because in the latter part of the chapter as I was writing this; it's a doozy.
Also yay we got Gordon and Bruce talking about us! And that we have our thoughts about the Waynes/Bruce. I hope I didn't make Bruce or Gordon too out of character, I'm trying to remember all I could from the movie.
One last note, be on the lookout for certain wording. I might do something regarding Reader's past or not but I thought it would be a good idea to let you guys know of this concept early.
Let me know what you guys think in the comments and thank you all for your likes and adding "Partner in Crime" to your reading lists! I would love to read your reactions to the chapters.
