The bleak dampness of the cave greeted Bruce as he entered the dwelling, his motorcycle parked off to the side as he left the vehicle stationary.
Immediately he began the process of removing his cowl that covered the dark mess of hair he had as it grew tousled as a result of removing the mask. His footsteps echoed into the cavern he deemed as his lair as he removed the gloves from his fingers and the special contacts he wore to take down the information he had from the night's activities.
It was just another night of analysis.
He had finally reached his work desk, the light of the monitors greeting him as he slipped the contacts on the device that would transfer data to the computer. The machine came to life once the contacts were sealed into its casing, whirring silently as it processed the data. It would take a minute or two to transmit everything onto the screen and it was for that reason that he took a seat in the chair that was situated in front of the desk. A small grunt escaped him as he settled into the seat, his knuckles tingling from the punches he threw to a few miscreants he had encountered hours ago.
However, his wait would not be long wasted as the flash of light from the monitors reflected onto him, making his attention shift to the images that flooded every available screen. Almost like clockwork, his right hand fell onto the mouse as he organized the photos, blue orbs scanning through each of them to see if there was anything worth noting.
So far there was nothing worth of importance other than the fights he found himself in. At least that was what brought him to that conclusion until his eyes caught sight of you. His hand froze over its place on the mouse as images from what happened hours ago with you and the gang in the alleyway graced their presence on the screen.
He knew for certain that you were the FBI agent Gordon had spoken to him about; the first words you spoke to him and the fact that you almost single-handedly took down a few gangbangers proved it. Not to mention your next words that he last heard from you that commanded him to stay put.
In spite of all this evidence, there was some part of him that was a bit unconvinced. Maybe it was that or the fact that he wanted to know for sure that you were the person of interest Gordon was right to worry about which is why he found himself bringing up the data he had in finding information about you.
With that said, using the same software he had used in identifying the crooked cops of the GCPD he extended his reach to the FBI as he waited for your profile to match up to the photo he took of you from the contact lens. It wasn't long until a profile that matched your person came into view.
"Match found," read the computer screen, the brows of the billionaire furrowing in anticipation as he clicked on your profile.
"[F/N] [L/N], field investigator..." he muttered to himself as he read. "Birthdate... unknown?" confusion crossed his expression as he continued to read only to find that most of what he read was blurred out or in some cases 'unknown' thrown in front of them.
"Strange, I would have considered the CIA to be more like this... not the FBI," he mumbled under his breath as he propped his hand underneath his chin to process what he had learned. It could have been that you were a mystery yourself to your work which explained the repeated use of 'unknown'. That would have meant that privacy was highly valued by you as much as he did.
That or there was something else.
While he reasoned this in his thoughts, he continued to scroll down your profile in a last-ditched effort to check if anything informative jumped out to him. The word 'CLASSIFIED' in big letters at the bottom of the screen caught his eye as they flicked to the left side of the screen to see what was being classified from him. "Fieldwork..." he sighed, the very thing he was looking for as to why you were infamous on the force.
It was settled then; you were an enigma.
What made it worse was that it did not help that you were after him especially when he came up empty in his search to find out what he could about you. You already raised several flags for him as he gazed back at the photo he took of you as he switched tabs back to the photos he took on today's patrol. Your [E/C] eyes seemed to stare ahead as your expression was one of disbelief. The photo was taken when he had risen from the squat he had taken in taking down the gang leader in an effort to save you from the stabbing you would have endured if he hadn't come out on top. That was why you had an incredulous look in front of him.
He sighed, his eyes closing at that moment as he thought of the matters at hand.
Gordon was right to worry about you because now he had the disadvantage of knowing nothing about you he knew that the FBI would arrive at a faster rate to be involved in Gotham's matters which also included himself as the Batman.
But he couldn't let this unfortunate circumstance stand in his way. The city needed him as a symbol of hope within the chaos the Riddler had thrown themselves in. He had to slowly erase away the embodiment of vengeance he had become in the last two years he had become the Batman.
So he finally came to a resolution; he would tail after you with the objective of studying anything that would lead to answers in the classification of your work on the field.
As his eyes opened from that moment he had, he found them engaged in that same stare-down he had with you earlier as he gazed back at your photo. Though you continued to stare unblinking when he looked away.
If Alfred had been present he was sure he would have asked if you were a new friend of his much like he had inquired of Selina days ago as your picture dominated the screen. But this time you weren't the partner he intended of having.
