Bright red and blue lights swirled across the brick of brownstones, the chirps of the sirens filling into the night air.

A puff of your breath exhaled from your lips, the night having grown colder as you brought the shock blanket closer around your figure. You sat in the passenger side of a police cruiser, body turned to where the door would have been closed but was open. Paramedics and police personnel crossed the scene as EMTs aided the injured gangbangers while officers oversaw their treatment.

You sighed, feeling your eyes close as if trying to drown out the noise before you. But when you tried to think of something else other than the crime scene that was taking place your mind couldn't help but wander to your interaction with him.

He had left a while ago, leaving just as fast as he arrived.

"Help should arrive here soon..." you remembered those words being the first he spoke to you, eyes having swept the area noting all the bodies scattered about. Unfortunately, those were also his last as he took a couple of steps away reaching for something in the belt he had around his waist. Seeming to snap out of whatever daze you were in, you immediately recognized what he planned to do. "You're not going anywhere..." you said sharply in reply, raising your revolver toward him. Even though you knew it was empty, you figured he had no chance of knowing that as you used it to your advantage. His eyes met your own at that moment as they seemed to stare into your very being.

Seconds passed like hours as the both of you were engaged in a stare-down, your gaze unwavering. Still, he hadn't listened to your demand as the sound of a clank entered your hearing before he was promptly whisked away into the shadows of the night. "Get back here!" the words echoed in your mind, helpless in stopping him from leaving as all you would do was watch him for a second as he disappeared.

To say you were infuriated was the least of it as you couldn't help but think about why he left you there with the kid. What if you were one of the gang members? The kid and the woman would have still been in danger and he just assumed you were some good Samaritan with a gun. And that was the other thing also, you had a gun on him yet he never flinched under its gaze. The complexity of the situation left you muddled, your body leaning into the leather seat of the cruiser as you wanted the day to be over and finally have some much-needed rest.

"Excuse me, Ms. [L/N]?" you heard your name being called, your eyes blinking open to see a slightly older man bend bowing down a bit to meet your figure. "Oh, sorry!.." you apologized as you straightened to face him, your body awakening from whatever short "rest" you had.

"It's alright," he reassured you, stepping back a bit before properly standing as he allowed for you to turn to meet him.

"Forensics has gathered trace from you, correct?"

"Yes that's correct," you replied, taking a brief look at your hands which were bandaged up from your scuffle with one of the gang members.

"That's good." he sighed in relief, his dark eyes taking a quick scan of the area before meeting your gaze.

"I'm Lieutenant Gordon of the GCPD." Gordon brought his hand out to shake. "Nice to meet you Lieutenant." you brought out your right hand as you shook his hand.

"[F/N] [L/N], New Jersey FBI." the man's brows furrowed at the revelation as he shook your hand. 'That explains everything...' he thought as his mind wandered to why he hadn't seen Batman present when they had arrived.

"[L/N]. we were waiting for your arrival over in the outskirts of the city." he retracted his hand, the lieutenant shaking his thoughts as he went straight to business in the conversation with you.
